Why must this be delayed until 2013? :(

That was a pretty cool trailer. Unlike the Dead Island trailer, based on 2033, I think they can deliver on that sense of hopelessness and desperation.

Which reminds me...I still need to finish 2033.

Steam: Galedrid - XBL: Galedrid - PSN: Galedrid
    Origin: Galedrid - Nintendo: Galedrid/3222-6858-1045

I am in the Library at the moment. I was honestly more scared about getting to the place without being picked off or running out of filters than of anything inside. I understand it's supposed to add another element of survival and tension and force you to be smart, but I really hope they tweak the filter mechanics some in Last Light; it's too easy to screw yourself and run out without realizing it in 2033, compounded by the fact that for a ridiculously long time after release nobody seemed sure how to actually keep track of how many filters or how much time they had left due to poor/non-existent documentation.

Hey, they should offer a gas mask as a pre-order bonus for a Last Light collector's edition; how sweet would that be? You can buy old Soviet gas masks online for like $40 anyway, grab a load of those puppies and slap a logo on 'em or something.

Yeah that trailer has motivated me to finally go back and finish the first one. I will have to see if I can tear myself away from Diablo 3 long enough to get it done.

I should probably just start all the way over at this point. Last time loaded the game up, I hadn't played in like a year, had
    some kid on my back
and I had zero idea what the fuck was going on.

I'm not sure how far in I was. But better to do it all at once, instead of spending the next 1/3 of the game trying to figure out what is going on and losing immersion.

Oh God that level. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for all the little damn holes to stagger into.

But yeah, that's basically what I've done a couple of times already. When I bought the game my rig wasn't up to snuff to really enjoy it and I got frustrated at a stealth section, so I started over when my new system was built, etc. etc.

Yeah my most recent playthrough is sort of stalled at the second half of the library because to be honest the first half just tires me out. those guys are actually harder to kill on the lower difficulties than the higher ones... also that whole keep your eyes on them and don't be aggressive has never worked for me.

added that video and the new website to the op as well.

The worst thing about the gasmasks is that the only place that you can buy them is in the market. Nowhere else sells them. Not even if you know that you're just about to come up on a huge outdoor section or whatever. And there are very, very few places that you can find them. Or at least, find ones that can be picked up. They are in stache everywhere, but simply cannot be used. It is infuriating. I hope that they fix that. I normally stock up with the maximum you can get in the market, and I still have a hard time later on.

This is what made the game excellent, if I had unlimited ammo and unlimited filters I'd be laughing my way through the game slaughtering everything. The shortages and having to balance exploring and taking my time with oh-fuck-me-this-is-my-last-filter-run-run-run-run added so much to the game and the tension.

I'd like improved filter count, but the timer was fine the way it was.

I liked the limited breathing time, but the system for determining what time you had left was just completely hosed. It should never have been more complex than "my watch says I can breathe for this much longer"; instead, it was "my watch says I can breath for this long, but I have this many filters, and my HUD is giving me this number". And the number of "fake" filters you see sitting around really was aggravating; at least the weapons you couldn't take were smashed up and useless.

I never had trouble with suffocating/finding filters, but the system still aggravates me when I play the game.

It's mostly just that they are there, and you can't use them. I wouldn't mind not having so much if there was actually an opportunity to find more. I never really ran out, apart form one time in my first playthrough, but knowing that you have about a minute of air left, and you are standing right in from of some more filters, looking at them and hammering the e key and it isn't doing anything is annoying.

Or being told you have to go out to the surface, and you have about 3 filters left, and you are in a huge trading hub that specialises in military weapons, and noone's selling.

They should have made it more hard, and made looking for the filters more important. I don't want to not care, I want my caring to mean something. If I'm about to suffocate, I should be able to do something. Or I should have been able to do something to prevent it when it was totally forseeable.

    This.

It's not the breathing time/filter mechanic itself I object to, not at all, it's the opaque implementation and illogically enforced scarcity.

I mean, I love this game, and my steam profile says I've played about 200 hours of it (divided up between me and my brother, and he has a bit of a problem with alt-tabbing things instead of quitting them, but still). That was still not the best way to implement that mechanic. It could be great, but it wasn't.

    new interview part one.

interesting notes. improved stealth/AI, weapons may have mods instead of having to find/buy a version of the gun you want with the mod already on it, more outdoor gameplay and the first signs of life after 20 years of nuclear winter. part 2 of interview tomorrow.

I assume they'll have something at e3 as well.

    new interview part 2.

I actually quite liked the shooting in the first one. I hope they keep the depth, and just go about explaining it a bit better. As long as for the monster bits, you still get the bits where you start off crouched, and firing off short disciplined bursts against the approaching horde, and it slowly but surely gets more and more chaotic, and you are running around and just knifing stuff, and just trying to kill them before they get you.

Good to hear that they are not trying to make the weapons feel anything less than cobbled together.
