Cool stuff! I'm so glad to see our group getting so big. Its pretty awesome. I gotta start work on my dress next week. I found an old small fanny pack that tightens enough and is small enough to strap to my thigh. Win!

Well I am not new to cosplay but I am going to be cosplaying for my first time at PAX itself this year. Due to work and life have missed most of my dress up cons so I am itching for it.
What I have planned so far is.
Shiki Misaki from TWEWY for casual fun times
Castanic Warrior from Tera
I want to bring at least one other costume but I am not sure what it will be as I am worried after the costume issue at PAX East if the Castanic will be allowed. So I would rather be prepared. Probably won't bring weapons sense I am flying... =/ Either way I am still super excited, it will be a blast!
my, my....
slight alterations to make that Tera more, um, family appropriate and I think you'll be sfae. But damn girl, if you pull that off, I will be your escort for the entire weekend...

Booth babe costume restrictions do not apply to attendees. You can wear a bikini if you really wanted too, although you'll get a lot of attention. Dress to your level of comfort and no nudity.
So this is my first time doing a costume and actually my first post on this forum lol. Me and my buddy are doing Rios and Salem from Army of Two. Didn't realize weapon rules were so strict, but it's understandable. Does anyone think I can spray paint a deactivated nerf gun black, even keeping an orange tip or something? Or possibly a clear deactivated airsoft gun? I understand It's still "airsoft" but there's virtually no resemblance to a real firearm other than shape which is all we need.
Alright I think I get the gist of it, thank you. If anyone has the ability to contact an admin at the official pax prime website you should post a link to this thread in the faqs or something cause I would have considered airsoft fine at "second glance" had I not come here just to see what everyone else was doing for their costumes. I'm not here to fight the rules or anything, just wish they were clear.
If anyone is having troubles thinking of a cosplay and plans on attending Sunday - we're still looking for more Dance Central 2 characters! =D
My Emilia is coming along nicely. I've got the shorts and socks, think I've figured out the shoes and got the tank top underway.
Zoya (from Trine 2) is in a lot of chaos, but I think it will come together perfectly in the end. Still debating as to whether or not I want to do the necklace depicted in this art work: media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/8484/1517602-trine2promothief657x1080.jpg - What do you think? Also if you're going Saturday and looking for a character to cosplay I'd love to have Amadeus the wizard and/or Pontius the knight.
Gywnevere (from Dark Souls) is still very much in the works... but once she gets started I think it will be quick... I hope... I'm getting nervous - only 73 days left >.<
I need to go retry on my DQ VIII Jessica outfit and make sure it still fits. I've been having some weight issues so that may be a no go.
I'm going to be looking at fabric today for an easy costume for me to make. I'm having a really hard time figuring things out for my Jedi outfit so I'm contemplating scrapping it for now. I've decided that I'm going to go as a Pokemon Gym Leader. I'm going to do Erika from Celadon Gym. The kimono will be the easy part. The shoes are gonna be the hard part. If anyone has any suggestions for shoes that look "traditional" but that I'd be able to walk 12+ hours in with a bad ankle and a bad knee, I'd appreciate any I can get. Worse comes to worse I'll just wear some sandels that I've already got, but I'd like to stick as close to her outfit as possible.
I had intended to once again return as Malcolm Reynolds as well as bullying my friends into dressing up as the crew. But unfortunately I was unable to secure a ticket, and so instead must honorably commit seppuku. See you all on the other side.

Sweeeet Nectar! The speakers are in and now the Foreigner Belt actually plays Foreigner! (or anything else, for that matter) Go ahead and check it.. and see:
Front:
Rear:
Speakers: Homedics HX-GO3SV HMDX. ($10 from Fred Meyer)
Guitar: Rock Band (360 Wired). (Pre-broken; $2 from Pink Gorilla)
I'm not planning on carrying around the Zen Vision M pictured, but it does fit nicely where the strum used to be
I made a Princess Daphne costume (Dragon's Lair arcade game, 1983) but was unable to get a pass. So I weep, and I share the fruits of my labor here.
thats really upsetting, that costume looks awesome ;-)
At first glance I thought it was a Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, I guess that's where they got some inspiration from?
My costumes haven't budged much in a while. I've picked up most of my accessories by now and some things that I'm just going to edit (making a striped shirt and painting that briefcase) but I'm waiting on a sewing class to even attempt the patterns I bought for dresses. They claim to be easy but I'm not so sure, plus I still need to pick appropriate fabric for 60's women's wear. I figure a basic cotton/blend thing should be fine, and more color options that way.
Distressed and beat up the armor so it looks like I have seen a fight or two, made a case to put it all in so I could fly with it, fixed some breaks and loose straps, and am now working on making some parts for my arms and legs that will cover buckles. Next steps are to add some layers to pieces like the neck and redo the shoulders. Also ordered a new battery pack for the el wire in the back piece cause the current one craps out if it so much as moves. I feel like this is my never ending costume! I started all of this in October yet everytime I look at it then I see more to improve on!
I think I have changed my mind again >.>; I was set with a character from Skullgirls, then I thought I would do a girl from Rage. I bought part of the
then today I got a crazy notion to make a home made dress fashioned after my favorite MTG card, The Black Lotus. I was also thinking of maybe doing Keeper of the Mind....
I ran it by my friend who loves mtg and he said he would love to see either but idk....So many characters to with so many awesome looks, so little time/energy/funds.

Ooo! I look forward to seeing some 405th members again this year! You guys always have awesome work.
Spartan armor has always been on my to do list but I never get around to it. I should use the leftover foam from Shep for some.... Hmmm... need to look into this more now!
The 405th will be there all decked out in our Spartan, ODST and Marine armor just like the year before.
Oh? a Halo group? Cool! I look forward to seeing you guys!
I has zero talent for armor crafting. thus the reason for my style of Spartan cosplay.

For my Mass Effect cosplay, I'm sad to say I have yet to do anything to create it. I am having issue getting my money straight and the time to buy my plane tix. I feel like all my money is tied up there, I dare not spend any on cosplay yet.
I am still planning on doing it! I love sewing and need a good project, but the time slipping by is starting to worry me...I see many a sleepless night ahead dedicated to FemShep's Black Dress.

It seems like this is the Year of the Dr. Who Cosplay. I saw another Whovian cosplay in this thread. Is there interest in a Whovian/BBC gathering at some point?
I have a video game cosplay of Princess Ovelia from FF:Tactics, but when you're movign around so much with tons of people around you, having this huge dress and enormous cape are just too troublesome.
Last year felt hotter than usual for us. I'm worried about my ginormous Tom Baker scarf : S
@tea_bird
Awesome Tali start! I have been slowly (when I say slowly in this case, I mean snails are lapping me on a track) working on a Tali cosplay but nothing for PAX, just a fun side project. The helmet can go die in a tiny pepakura fire. Looking forward to seeing you at PAX! Hope you joined the facebook group too (if not then the link for the info is in my giant first post to this thread)

I am in that group! I haven't posted there yet, but maybe some of them can give me tips on how to dye my visor.
Well I ended up backing out of my costume last year due to lack of planning. But this year I'm planning to come in a set of Fallout Power Armor less the helmet for breathing ease. Currently waiting on a guy who does small runs from ABS, then paint/assembly/inner padding.
@tea_bird
Look into RIT dye in boiling water, that is how my buddy did his visor for his mando merc armor. Next time I see him I will ask more aboutthe details but in the mean time check online.
Hello! This will be my first ever PAX and I had a couple questions about one of my costumes. I will be attending as a Red Scout from TF2 and was wondering what the policy is on inflatable objects. I was hoping to bring my Inflatable Balloonicorn:
I was also wondering about your policy on props such as baseball bats. I believe I read that if an object is too heavy it is not allowed. Am I to assume a wooden baseball bat would not be allowed? Here is a picture of the bat (with me holding it):
@decalescent
Here are my best guesses based on past experience and policies.
No to the bat.
Yes to the balloonicorn if it is reasonably sized and is not going to get in other people's way. I am not sure how big they are but think about it practically if you brought it into a crowded expo hall.

I thought the policy this year was changed to only not allow pointy objects. Such that the wooden swords from geek chic and scout bats and whatnot were allowed? I'm sure Airwolf will sweep in and actually answer this though.
Hello everyone, AirWolf (aka AaronC) here with an update to the PAX Costume Weapons policy and information on how to get your costume weapons checked at Prime 2012
The TL:DR version of the weapons policy is that bats, wooden swords and other objects that can be used to bludgeon are no longer restricted. Things that shoot, airsoft and things that are sharp or pierce are not allowed.
Simply put, we trust that people aren't going to be intentionally hitting each other and that a ban on those items didn't serve its purpose.
Bats are fine. I have been at work overseas, I haven't followed up on the FAQ on the main PAX page, if it hasn't been updated I'll get an email fired off again.
If someone has a huge item that is a hindrance to others, that would be an issue, but not from the banned weapon standpoint.
