I don't know why but I had diaz on google plus and the other day he drew his female character wearing a dress with the bust made for larger breasts so it was just hanging off her chest in profile and then I killed myself
I actually searched for this post because I could not figure out a) how that would even look and b) why a person would draw that.
Turns out the answers are a) really dumb and b) because Diaz apparently thinks women having different bust sizes is funny.
That is a "joke" I'm used to seeing in shitty anime.
Yeah he referenced another woman in the post so I figured there was a different woman with a larger bust in the comics but my eyes had already rolled out of my head for me to check
Yeah, the joke was actually that he switched the outfits of the characters which isn't really the height of comedy but it's definitely not something you can point at and go "UGH, SEE? MORE OF HIS BLURGH"
It's not really deserving of praise, but it's not deserving of scorn, either. Let him draw what he wants to draw, jesus christ.
And the idea that Kim is some kind of "waifu" or whatever is ridiculous because she's pathetically socially inept and more than a little insane. And I don't mean socially inept in a cutesy way. It's both a genuine source of conflict and comedy in the story.
the general criticism here is that he claims to hate sexual objectification in comics, yet constantly draws his own female character in states of undress.
Objecting to sexual objectification doesn't mean you can't ever draw a lady in a state of partial undress. Context is important. The problem is that in mainstream comics, sexy poses and costumes and whatnot are almost universally tasteless and gratuitous. Kate Beaton & co's Strong Female Characters style, pretty much.
Diaz doesn't actually ever do that.
The social ineptitude thing was in response to people talking about how they thought the point of the comic was to draw the adventures of some kind of attractive mary sue type person. The socially inept thing makes her not very attractive at all, which is the point.
Maybe so, but he does come off as a little hypocritical.
A valid criticism of Diaz is that he does seem to think that he knows more about mainstream comics than he really does, and the way he talks about his designs sometiems makes him come off as kind of condescending towards the mainstream. He often fails to acknowledge that parts of the mainstream do actually have value. He's kind of a snob. That's true. It's not as bad as people often make it out to be, though.
Usually people are really just fabricating reasons to get upset at the guy.
I think you're kinda hobbling the character more than he does though
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.

You can raise a (valid!) point about the differences between the degrees of gratuity between his work and mainstream comics, but come on. No need to be rude when somebody disagrees with you.

I honestly don't think so. Her characterization for the most part has been as a mad scientist. The "Those shortsighted FOOLS! How can they not recognize my GENIUS?!" kind. Not the kind you feel sympathy for because they've got good ideas but people won't listen, but the villainous kind. The kind whose ideas genuinely are crazy, even if they are beneficial in some capacity.

I'm not trying to pick sides here but even frankenstein didn't do too bad in the romance department. I wasn't going to post this but now I really do want to see comics where this is portrayed as an actual negative, cause I just love them fallible characters.
wait, now that I think of what I've just said, it kind of makes the point circularly unprovable

this is precisely why he's attracted to her
these are the qualities which aaron diaz is fetishizing
His 'Naked test' blog post was pandering. He could have gone barbie anatomy or basic undies, but he went full-on dials and carpets with his main lady characters (and no males) when it didn't serve the purpose of the example.
Not saying peeps can't draw naked ladies. However, me thinks he likes his own naked ladies in a special naked way.

He really, really isn't. I mean, you're free to think that, but your views are not supported by the comic itself or everything Diaz himself has ever said about it.
In the story those qualities are presented as either pitiable or comical at her expense.
You can raise a (valid!) point about the differences between the degrees of gratuity between his work and mainstream comics, but come on. No need to be rude when somebody disagrees with you.
I dunno, the second one seems like it's just an excuse to show off her prosthetics which are central to her character design. If this was a superhero comic she'd be wearing a bathing suit and her spine would be twisted and we'd be instructed to put on 3D glasses to see her cleavage pop out into space.

i am surprised that you can't see this but also it is hard for me to point to any clear evidence of it
it's just overwhelmingly the vibe everyone but you gets from his comic
I would buy that, but it seems like there's a lot of those prosthetics shots per storyline. After a while, I have to wonder if he's really doing it for the prosthetics.

This.
As for her being naked in the first example, you can barely make out any features whatsoever in the first panel she's naked. Aside from that her nakedness is largely implied and never directly shown.
And the punchline of the comic is that it's her ridiculous erotic alternate history self-insert fan-fiction. So it's not gratuitous, since it actually serves a purpose.

Yeah this is the hardest one to defend. The linked comics, well one is a dream and being naked in weird situations is kind of a running dream trope. The other, she has cybernetic parts, some on her back. Sometimes it needs to be seen. They could be pandering but they also have reasonable explanations. (edit: whoops it's not a dream just a fantasy, well, the same explanation can still work.)
But the naked test thing? Yeah... Like Ronnie said, it would have served the same purpose without going to that sort of detail. Not that nudity is like super offensive or anything but it still hurts the argument that he doesn't go out of his way to sexualize his character(s).
Obviously, when writing women characters, if the only thing you have in mind is their sexuality, you’re probably going to write a shitty character. That aside though, sometimes you want to draw a pin-up or convey the general sexiness of a character. I know I do.
He does occasionally insert sexualized material in his comics. Not to the exploitative extent of most mainstream comics, but he does do it.
Is it still creepy? Is his opinion on sexuality in comics valid, or is it unconvincing?
I would buy that, but it seems like there's a lot of those prosthetics shots per storyline. After a while, I have to wonder if he's really doing it for the prosthetics.
It's all covered most of the time so that's the only page (iirc) we see the full extent of her prosthetics

she's wearing a bikini the whole comic
i don't know, are you really trying to make the case that these comics aren't fanservice-y? it seems like you have to bend over backwards to justify that one
like i can see your point that kimiko-as-waifu is just a reading we're making of the comic and not one you happen to agree with. that's fine. i don't have any incontrovertible proof that diaz writes these things with his dick in his hand. it's just a feeling i get.
but i don't think you can honestly argue that there's no evidence to support that reading, and i don't think you can dismiss it out of hand

either eatthattoast or forlackofabettercomic
they did a m'lady comic
i'm on my phone someone find it for me

so firm
that is one coquettish caligula
so tsundere
But if I used my talents to draw a cyborg girl I wanted to fuck (and let's face it, why wouldn't I) I'd totally be upfront about it
There's a couple webcomic artists out there who have just straight-up done porn art and I respect them for that
it's practically an epidemic
which is fine, nothing wrong with porn
although perhaps a few of them have a style which doesn't readily lend itself to drawrings of a lascivious nature

What does social ineptitude have to do with that?

Have you?
This comic opens with Kimiko nude for no real reason. Gratuitous cleavage.
More unnecessary nudity. Largest panel, too!
There's more, but you get the point.
