hey goatmon do you remember what I asked earlier about please trying not to post videos of wild animals that are prettymuch almost def being abused and in bad situations
that video is one of those situations
and just makes me super duper sad
because that bear is obviously being kept captive? And there's really no situation where it's okay to have a bear cub as a pet. And if it was an animal rescue, then they'd know better to let a bear cub wrestle with a young boy, so it's obviously not. And therefore it probably came under ownership by illicit means and I feel that sharing these types of videos is 1) Sad and 2) Encourages these sorts of animals to be kept as pets. Which is bad. It's why animals like the Slow Loris are nearly extinct in the wild.
I've talked about this in a few threads. : ( Cute youtube videos of wild animals as privately kept pets are exploitative
It's a little unclear to me on how to categorize animals with this problem in mind.
For example: why is it okay to keep Fennecs? Aren't they wild animals?
Often there are 'tame' populations of fennec foxes bred for being kept as pets. Like, maybe at one point a hundred years ago people took them from the wild and have now been breeding them. They're not domesticated, but they're tamer than your average Fennec. And they're not being taken from the wild. And their needs can be relatively met by a responsible owner. They're not being taken from the wild population and they have a relatively good quality of life. It's hard, you need to have a massive outdoor enclosure and spend a fuckton of time caring for them, but it can be done.
You cannot, as a single human being who does not own a forest, meet the needs of a bear or a tiger or most other exotic 'pets'. That animal will be miserable. Those animals do not stay small and cute. It's not okay to encourage that sort of behavior.

edit: More info, and a quote that should make you cringe, "More tigers are found in captivity in the USA than in the wild around the world"

I didn't mean the most obvious cases (bears and tigers) but I didn't know about Slow Lorises for example.
More cutes please!
