Not that I mind, but it's kinda hard to tell that he is wearing a beany. At first I thought it was a bowl cut. But I figured it out pretty fast. Now I'm kinda just glad there was a moment of confusion. I like the light blue you used. And is that a non-date in the bottom right --\-?
ahaaa! i love it dude.
did you get the random guy to sit for that portrait or was it a photo? how long did that take to draw? what medium is it? im not PS literate, so the drybrush looks real to me, that's why i ask.
edit: it also looks like this could be acrylic markers.

I took a reference photo of him. It took me an hour to do, but I couldn't ever ask somebody for an hour of their time without scheduling it first!
This is a default Photoshop brush, with opacity and flow jitter set to pressure sensitivity. That way you have to work for things like edge control, but it keeps things from looking too digitally-detailed and boring.
I'm 'bout this self port.
It reminds me of some turn of the century work.
Proportionally, I believe the distance from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the bottom lip, is "generally" the same distance from the bottom of the bottom lip, to the bottom of the chin.

I really like it. Its cool to see just that little extra push to refinement in your work. It still has a ton of energy, but rewards me for studying it for a while. Cool shit, man.
Since trying the Strip Search elimination comics, I've been trying to do simpler things. Here are some meat-fisted Pokémon sharpie doodles. I changed things to have the evolutions make more sense to me (Charmander going orange>red>yellow-orange? Seriously?)
Doing some prep for Anthrocon, the biggest convention for me. I'll be at table N03, doing portfolio reviews, and delivering giant poster orders! Will anyone else be present?
And to keep this post from being dumb and spammy, here are two current images for a mock Fighting Game screen:
on your warm up, before i noticed that you we drawing a wolf-dude, i loved the abstract image i saw, your placement of lights and darks, and the chaos was really nice.

Thanks, @francium! It was complete abstraction for about the first half hour. I slowed down and tried to ignore the right-handed tendencies I have when scribbling.
I like the bird dude, but his eyes look like a stuffed animals. The shape and shading make them look like solid plastic shapes sewn on top of his head, rather than a translucent dome with a pupil in the back.

Thanks for the feedback, @Iruka. Solid black shape on top was what I was going for (played up by the floating eyebrows. He's a more rendered version of this:
I was going for a more toony, Earthbound/Yoshi Story vibe, as to keep it out of the uncanny valley. But if that doesn't read as intentional I may have to tweak it, some.
The eyes for the bird dude work much better on the black sketches than on the more rendered version. I think it's just because the eyes and everything else went in two different directions when you started rendering.
Also I cannot unsee a tailfeather-dong in the first of the three sketches.
@wahay
Super cool stuff as always.

Boy, howdee! I've been following Lugaru since 2006. It'd be fun to collaborate with Wolfire games somehow. I was thinking of them specifically when I did my most recent image. (I'll post it when it's published this July.)

That's my signature. If I were to bite down on something, that's the mark my bottom row of teeth would make.

Here's a more extreme version of that same brush.

Here's the latest. This standard of detail I'm trying to achieve in the rest of my 2013 stuff:
EDIT: Here's an animated GIF to show the whole process.
