holy shit BWR is totally great, thanks for the heads up.
made it through to the boss of level 3 on the first credit, ended up using 3 credits to beat it. definitely going to play through that one a bunch more times.
I had to stop playing it because I got so tired of the first 3 levels I was getting sloppy and losing lives to sections I would normally pass without a hitch.
Recommend the best please, and rather not the most difficult ones.
From reading the pages I understand Gradius III for the VC would be a could purchase, I also got Super Star Soldier, was that a good purchase or not so much?
Please tell me which good shmups are available on VC, and also; Are there any for the Mac platform? I'm not totally set yet for emulating windows so anything developed for osx would be great.
Kthnxbye!

How about the original Gradius and Galaga or Galaga '90? I feel that I better play more Super Star Soldier then buy the sequel. I haven't played much SSS yet.

Aye, for the PS2, it's great, and should be pretty cheap by now.
Cool, I like cheap.
I got into Gradius III a month or two back but haven't gotten very far yet. I keep crapping out on the cloud? Blob? boss pretty early in the game. It's fuckin great though. I highly recommend the III/IV PS2 disc, there are some nice extras.
He is easy.
FLY INSIDE HIM.
Yeah I figured but I remember dying inside that guy pretty quickly pretty much every time I tried to do so. maybe it's cause I'm playing the Arcade version on the PS2, maybe he's less a bitch on the SNES version, or maybe I just need to try again.
Only problem with the Gradius Collection is that it's NOT the SNES version of Gradius III. It's the Rape All arcade version.
Well, I played a little of GIII on the Collection... I can't speak much for difficulty on that, but based on my limited play time with it, I think I prefer the SNES version...
As for Gradius IV.. oh God.. you want hard? Even with unlimited credits I couldn't beat that game. The last gauntlet of bosses is ridiculous. I gave up.
I may have been able to beat it if I threw a few more hours into the last boss encounters... but fuck it, I have other things to do.
I will say that Gradius IV had a cool aesthetic to it.

General consensus, I believe. Don't know what all is different with it, and screen shots seem about equally compared, save for the Arcade just having more stuff on the screen, and I think different enemies.

That's my cue for a hiatus.

Brumski!
For Run and Gun you can't go wrong with Gunstar Heroes and Contra 3
Blazing Lasers is good also.
I like R-type and R-type III but they are pretty difficult and focus on memorization over reflexes. (a lot of people don't like them)

I don't think much was sacrificed for the NES version of Gradius so i would say it's worth $5 if you don't already have it.
M I RITE? M I RITE? HUH?
....this is a game or a form of torture?
I believe these kinds of games are called "Bullet Hell"

It's a damn fine game, but really really not worth that.
The games were made by one guy in his basement. One sick motherfucker.
