Are there any space shooters on 360 that are any good? Anything coming out? I suppose I'll never see Colony Wars surface on the platform, since after all the development company was bought by Sony. Any recommendations?

AFAIK there's only Project Sylpheed and Wing Commander : Arena to choose from.
Wing Commander Arena is not a bad game either ... it just got alot of hate because it isn't anything like any other Wing Commander game that has come before it.
To be perfectly honest Wing Commander Arena has more in common with Subspace than it does with previous Wing Commander Games.
This is not nessecarily a bad thing.
In my mind Wing Commander Arena is basically Subspace Continuum "Lite".
Project Sylpheed arrived at my doorstep this morning (£17.99 from Asda website) and I have to say, it really is pretty damned good. It would be worth trying the demo first, some people didn't like it. Me, I played the demo tonnes, and waited for the inevitable price drop before snagging it, and I really enjoy it.
The combat is awesome, dogfights are fun, going head to head with one of the larger battleships is great and the weapons are cool. Some people didn't like the controls, but once I took the time to get them down, the playability increase was well worth it. Some of the effects look pretty tasty too. And the story is suitably well produced and cheesy. Worth a shot IMO.

It pretty much needs to be cheesy when the main characters name is "Katana Faraway"
I'm having trouble with the first escort mission in Project Sylpheed. I was all over that ship but it keeps blowing up. Suggestions?
Also, your Captain gives suggestions on how to fuck up a big ship, because ramming is not enough. How do you know where to mess up a big ship?
I never used ramming. The first power attack is enough. It also should be said that the game is much more fun if you play through on easy first, unlocking better weapons, before trying it on medium or hard.

I still can't believe that the demo mission for Sylpheed was a goddamn escort mission. When you want to show off as much as possible you set the player in a fleet battle without the need to babysit a bunch of transports.
Question for those of you who have completed the game: Are there many escort missions in the full game?

You almost always need to keep your supply ship from being destroyed, but it never felt that tedious or overly difficult.
Speaking of space games, I want Freelancer on the XB360, right now.

i want to find the person who created that mission and club them with a baby seal.
Golden Rule for space shooters: Escort missions aren't fun, have never been fun and will never become fun either. Fuck every unimaginative developer who feels that a few fighters should protect what usually is their factions last hope in a dinky freighter, held only together by spit, duct tape and the decompressed remains of the last crew..

as a devout fan of the genre, i agree 100%.
this thread is making me think about firing up tie fighter or freespace 2 again, hmmmm...

WC: Arena is sorry garbage that tarnishes the good name. Read the manual, it's great but avoid the game like the plague.

Is this going to feature those fancy light synth things Minter is so fond of?
(and having spent Saturday 4AM fucked off my tits staring at the 360 visualiser for 2 hours I have to agree with him)
Listen to this man no 360 should be without Geometry wars.
Also Aegis Wing is pretty good too. And it's Free.
I do that all the time, just stare at all the pretty.
Buy some useless stuff at my Cafepress site!
