Crappy job prospects for men, having criminal backgrounds, being more financially independent, and some other stuff also result in women in poverty also not marrying because it is kind of a dumb idea to marry another person who is financially screwed. The argument that marriage will solve poverty issues for children is flawed because poverty is a huge chunk of reason there are many single parents.
“One of the saddest results of these last fifty years has been the decay of the American family, as the percentage of children born out of wedlock has risen from 6 percent to 41 percent,” Bachmann wrote. “When government has policies that induce people to either not get married or to bear a child out of wedlock, poverty persists.”
Bachmann said the strength of families should be the key to any efforts to combat poverty.
“Let’s use the lessons of the past 50 years and start working to reassert the importance of family and the work ethic —not government programs and dependency —as a solution to lift more people out of poverty,” she said.
Do they all live in an alternate reality where jobs can be found easily? Blaming the lack of work ethic is so Victorian. They just need to start arguing for workhouses.

They do. It's the same one where lowering taxes on the rich creates all those jobs that the poors don't have the work ethic to take.
