First Daily challenge in the bag, I really hate playing against pudge as an agility carry. Luckily our Magnus wrecked face all game, 3-4 man RPs every teamfight.

Okay, so I saw one of those "Zombie Apocalypse Team" things the other day, and I decided to make one for Dota. I fucking defy you guys to build a better team than mine:
    • Team Leader: Dark Seer
    • Tactician: Earth Spirit
    • Badass: Bristleback
    • Resident Dumbass: Axe
    • Vehicle Specialist: Gyrocopter
    • Explosives Expert: Goblin Techies
    • Tech Specialist: Tinker
    • Weapons Expert: Clockwerk
    • Melee Specialist: Centaur Warrunner
    • Medic: Dazzle
    • Marksman: Sniper
    • Stealth Expert: Riki
    • Scout: Beastmaster
    • Mascot: Pudge
    • First to Die: Goblin Techies

Only potential changes I could see are to Badass (Tusk beat Bristleback in a bar brawl, according to the lore), Melee Specialist (Juggernaut might give Centaur a challenge) and Stealth Expert (Mirana was another top choice, since she can make everyone invisible temporarily).

Thinking of early Rosh, I'd love to give it a try on one of our five man groups. We might want to practice against bots first, but I'd love to pull it off in an actual game.

Its pretty easy to anticipate, though. Like, if I see an enemy lineup that includes both Ursa and Wraith King, there's a damned good chance they're trying to sneak an early Rosh. If you can disrupt that attempt and score first blood, the whole game turns in your favor.

    Some days...

    Everything actually goes your way!

Today I've gone 4-0. Knocked two heroes off the remaining ones on my 10-challenge, as well as my first daily (which came up Witch Doctor, one of my favorites). Also absorbed much general adulation reaching to the degree of semi-embarrassing pronouncements of brotherly love from strangers on the internet in both of the last two games, saving teammates' behinds left and right with first Abaddon and then Witch Doctor.

I feel like I just beat Dota. Or maybe I'm living in opposite world, people don't praise their teammates in pub Dota. Is it April 1?

Just got my first daily hero win with morphling. And I gotta say I am the worst Morph. Sucked at getting farm and didn't feel like I did anything. Good thing tinker and clockwerk carried my sorry butt.

Is there a way to join this 5 mans you guys talk about? I never see anything in the PA channels about em so I was curious.

Alright, my second Daily Challenge lord: MAGNUS.

I'd been meaning to learn this guy anyway.

Edit - I fought one the other day in mid-lane as Sniper. I wanted to see what the drag-people-on-your-horn thing was like so I let him snare me on it when he was obviously positioning for it. It didn't hurt directly as much as I was expecting, nor was he able to directly damage me any better as a result.

What killed me was the tower he dragged me to. <_<

I've become so bad, that I know what I'm about to do is stupid, but I don't act accordingly.

Additionally, playing on a different set up totally screws with your muscle memory. I'm hitting the Windows key and the on/off key for my wi-fi more often than I'm landing actual spells...

Awesome games tonight, guys. The coolest thing is, right? We've been consistently meeting like, cool people, who like, speak fucking English, and who want to continue partying with us when the game's finished. I'm not sure what that means, necessarily. But I'm willing to bet it hints that we're starting to claw our way out of the goddamned Trench.

    I was 2-1 today.

It has been a while. And the loss I didn't feel to bad.

Every hero I played today was my first game with that character verse at least people. I have clinkzed like once verse bots?

I loved Ursa. He is easily countered. But man once I got rolling with a blink dagger I was death incarnate. I was destroying folks left and right.

I am not sure about SK. The ult just annoys me. I missed a few by like .1 seconds. I got an amazing epi at the end. It did like 0 damage at that point of the game though. I do like some of the burrowstrikes I did with the blink. A consistent thing with my game play now is blink good on the character? I own with it.

Last game I was Clinks. I have never played Clinks in a game. I know him or his abilities from RAD basically. I had meh farm but was able to avoid early ganks with skeletal walk. Then a magic moment occurred at some point and Clinks kicked in. Then I got an orchid. And I killed things. I killed them quickly. I probably need to gank better. But god it felt good.

I still need to try Windrunner with the new buffs. I was kicking butt with her before the buff. I bet more butt kicking will be had.

Yeah good games tonight, the loss was in part a magic heavy team comp and in part a pretty terrible Luna who was our only real chance to pull out a win. That said the game was still fun once I got away from the lane and wasnt directly involved in Lunas stupidity.

Okay uh. I just got my face stomped on as Magnus. Like, really badly.

His shockwave ability has a weird hit box, that or it was TA's shield thing I dunno. And his charge thing being a targeted point on the ground rather than direction you're facing seems clunky as shit. And his ult's range is... very, very questionable.

Edit - Also it wasn't helping that everyone on my team was a self-serving asshole. An LC who spoke Spanish that just kept barreling down bottom despite getting ganked a lot and dueled at stupid times. A Sven who felt team fights consisted of him and one other person around. A Mirana who thought she could be the gank-lord of the match. And a witch doctor who... I don't even know. He tower dove for kills and was stupid.

At some point you have to realize that holding on to anger from matches to tell other people how awful your time was just makes you in a worse mood for longer.

Sometimes people are shitty! A lot of times, people just overestimate their own strength and assume people are on the same wavelength, and then get angry.

Also, Magnus's Q's hitbox is narrow, but it's pretty normal. It's very slightly wider than the (narrow) visual, like most skills. You can tell if the damage was refracted by TA via sound effect and a subtle image. And Magnus's E charging in the direction you are facing would be a ridiculously large nerf. I dunno why anybody would want skills to target the direction you are facing; that is very specifically a huge balancing mechanism on Pugna, Slark, and especially Shadow Fiend.

I've never played Magnus, I just assumed his charge was only in the direction he was facing. I have a little less respect for Magnus combos now :p

Big skills like Reverse Polarity (his ult) always seem so huge when you watch pro games, then so tiny when you use them yourself. If you haven't seen it in a pro game, a RP + Skewer + Shockwave combo can win a teamfight by itself.

I actually managed to setup a pretty boss Magnus ult + skewer combo in the first (rare to come) team fight. My team promptly took it as "OH SHIT BAIL OUT" and left me to die. I mean they literally scattered in all directions.

Clinkz is fun, I play him a lot and he's my go-to 'Blow off steam' hero. A few things to remember when ganking:

If it's laning phase, you should set yourself up behind the target before revealing yourself and wailing on them with Searing Arrows / Strafe, so that they need to run past you to get away. It helps to toggle Searing Arrows to autocast while you're setting up. Don't forget to toggle it off. Once you get your Orchid you regen fast enough to pretty much leave it on all the time.

If laning is over and you're roaming, depending on the hero it's a good idea to be practically on top of the enemy hero before revealing yourself - that way no matter which way they run, you'll get the maximum number of shots on.

In the early laning phase, you pretty much do more damage than anyone and are one of the best harassers in the game.

Don't forget that in most cases, Skeleton Walk makes you the fastest man on the field by some distance. If a weakened hero retreats to go fountain, you can chase him halfway across the map for the pick off in some cases.

If you're running to a teamfight, don't forget to stop off to eat a creep, preferably a beefy neutral, on your way in. Try and time it so that you Skeleton Walk is off CD when you eat the creep so you can get to the fight as quickly as possible. I try to eat the creep as close to halfway between me and the fight as possible. Obviously this is redundant if you're TPing.

If you're invis and setting up for a gank, it's worth waiting for your Skeleton Walk to get close to coming off CD so that you can invis again if shit goes South. I've died many times by not being patient then getting stuck when back-up arrives for my target and I can't get away.

Lastly, once you have the mana to support it, don't forget to eat a creep every time the ability comes off CD. It's easy to forget that it's not just a combat ability, it's a mini Hand of Midas.

Earth Spirit practice. He is one of the last few on my 10-challenge and I really want to learn him, he looks fun.

After playing quite a few bot games, many quick and abortive because I was whiffing everything and dying hilariously, I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of how his spells work. His Q is especially frustrating at first, really fine positioning required or it does not go in the direction you want it to, but I'm getting used to it.

Does anyone have recommendations about builds though, or details about combos I might not know? Especially with the items, the various in game guides are just all over the map and I did a variety of different things throughout those games, not sure which was most effective.

Skill-wise I'm going for max E first, with a 1/1/3/1 point distribution by level 6 when I go looking for a gank, then max Q second. Seems like the money gank combo is drop a stone behind the target, pull it for the silence, roll in through the same stone and magnetize, and then immediately position yourself to smash them back away from the direction they want to retreat. From there, rightclick/drop additional stones to reset magnetize, as needed.

Man just got phoenix for the first time in all random. While fun I had no idea what I was doing and kept forgetting my abilities ate hp. And my team was less than thrilled with my antics despite being honest about never playing it before.

It seems like my main role is to dive in and ult? And during lane I was trying to support WK but had no idea what to pick so I ended up leveling my w first which may have been a bad choice.

I love Phoenix, he very quickly became one of my best heroes. Dunno if this is all helpful but here's my thoughts:

Maxing W is good. In a team fight, you first want to drop fire spirits on as many enemies as possible, for the huge attack speed slow as well as a bit of damage as a bonus. Also, Mek. Mek is great because you can use it while diving, whether you do that with a dive right into the fight or whether you let the dive finish and bring you back to safety. Shivas is great too if you can afford it late, for the same reason.

Biggest pitfalls I see so many Phoenixes fall into are the ill-advised dive into ult in the midst of a fully healthy five man enemy team, and willy-nilly use of Sun Ray.

I wouldn't generally recommend just diving and ultimate, it usually gets the Phoenix killed when I see players do that. Personally, I ult only when either not doing so would guarantee my death in the next couple seconds, or when I'm on the edge of an undecided teamfight and have nothing else left to contribute (I.e., fire spirits are used up, Mek is used up, and too much is going on or I am too low health to use Sun Ray safely). I will only dive in and ult in the middle of everything if I'm quite certain they can't focus and kill me, so usually either in smaller engagements, or in the case that the enemy team are all getting towards low HP in a fairly even fight and therefore they couldn't afford to focus me. As a bonus in that latter situation, when you come out of the ult with reset cool downs you're in a great position to chase anyone retreating, with dive coming off CD.

Sun Ray is the ability that really burns off your health like crazy, which makes it highly situational. It is awesome for picking off fleeing heroes, and also great either with or especially against big immobilizer skills, like Void's Chronosphere or Clockwerk's Cogs. It's really amusing to fire Sun Ray right through an enemy Void and his intended target, and watch the Void haul ass back out of his own Chrono after a couple of futile swings, or likewise with an enemy Clockwerk who just hookshotted in on someone. Teammates will love you, against those heroes.

Dude, those guys rocked up to me twice like they thought they could take me. I'm fucking Bane. You don't run up on Bane solo unless you can surprise him with a silence, because he's going to CC your shit from here to next week.

First, it was Ember Spirit, who dove me beneath mid tower. Risky play, but he figured he could just teleport back out to his remnant if the fight went south. As soon as he got in range, I just gripped his ass and the tower burned him down.

Then, it was Axe who charged straight through the river mid and up into my grill. And all I had to do was grip and call Mazzyx in for the focus fire.
