They seem to have ZERO hesitation in pulling from FROM SOFTWARE. Like. . .none at all. The bit 3 minutes in with him recovering his "Lost Experience. . ." I mean.
Also a bit disappointing that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of character customization. At least the definitive way in which the designers are speaking of their main character. Helps build a more fleshed out world but disappointing.
And the flavor text looks a bit better here. I guess it can't all be solid gold.
Sure, but they could have been more subtle about it. For example if they wanted to go the "You lost your Souls. . ." bit, why not make it so that the mechanic is I dunno - the enemy that killed you took your souls, and he's been buffed a bit, so now you need to go and get your shit back. This would also make boss battles a bit more intense, since you gotta beat the boss if you want your experience/souls back.
Just having it be "Run over where you died to recover. . ." will draw too many comparisons to DS that I don't think the developer really wants to have made. I'm thinking of the Gametrailers preview reaction, and essentially it was the guy talking about what/how Dark Souls did it better than what was being shown by LotF.

I'm willing to give it a shot, but frankly I've had the same reaction as the Gametrailers guys: DeS/DaS did everything this game is doing, but better. They just aren't doing enough, so far, to not simply be "Generic Souls Clone #1". It's one thing to make a spiritual sibling game, it's another to make a direct clone that appears to be distinctly less than the thing it's cloning.
Caveat this will the fact that we have incredibly limited information and I'm going by what I see in the released video.
Seems Enemy Front came out yesterday. Let's see how it does.

It's interesting to me that Namco Bandai is publishing this. Do you think this is a reaction to Sony publishing From's next game and Namco not wanting to be muscled out of this genre?
I think they saw an opportunity. The real problem for Bamco was Kadokawa acquiring From. Can you imagine the people that make Armored Core giving Gundam a try? Missed opportunity.
Deck 13 is publishing on Steam for the PC version as far as I know.
If anything this indicates the game will be released after the last DS II dlc pack is out.

I mean, even if it's just dark souls II on the PS4 with an appropriately next gen lighting system, that's fine with me. Those pictures look pretty darn amazing and, let's be honest, blow the dark souls II graphics out of the water.
I dunno, Killzone had some really nice lighting on the PS4 as well. I mean, I have no trouble believing the PC version will look better than the PS4 version, but that could in theory be the PS4 version.
You'd better make sure that the Infested you just ran through with your sword is well and truly dead before you risk turning your back on it. Some - but not all - enemies in Lords of the Fallen have the ability to return to life after you slay them. It's a tricky little twist that has the potential to catch out hasty players when they're trying to make their way back to the point of their last death to reclaim lost XP.

The XP that was left when you died will start to decrease if you don't hurry to recover it.
Also, you can store it in the checkpoints instead of being forced to spend it.
It seems all enemies will respawn in the area.

I don't understand why the first demo was shown closed doors in E3 and Gamescom and only like 3 sites bothered to write about it.
What's up with the other weapons? Skill tress? Other npcs? Some concept art would be useful to get a better idea and differentiate it from Dark Souls.

If this game is a dark souls clone, I doubt I'll be too terribly disappointed. Clones of good things are good.
A lot of positive changes in industries happen by iteration and moderate modifications to already proven winners. It's not necessarily a bad thing.
