Apparently I may not have mentioned on the Signal before
that I'm going to be writing the Marvel comic THUNDERBOLTS
for a while.
So, um. There.
Also, I got the nod to say what the animated D2DVD movie
I'm writing is called. It's called CASTLEVANIA. Based on
the longrunning series of videogames. For an entity currently
known only as Project 51 Productions. A production blog
will follow on the official site.
So. I said.
Here's the thought I left my MySpace readers with today,
and it applies to you people too:
Be nice to me today or that evil sex clown from your dreams
who you thought no-one knew about will appear in your house
and shank you.
Wait. Didn't he say that he wasn't doing this a while ago?
I thought he denied it.
He said he wasn't, but it was full of sarcasm. He also said he wasn't a fan of the games and hadn't met an illustrator that was working on the project.
Warren Ellis has never written anything remotely connected to vampires that I can recall
I mean he's a good writer but it's just weird
Cronyx was his LARP character

while I am a big fan of 2D animation, I think the best way to make an animated Castlevania movie would be to have Advent Children-quality CG in the style of the gothic artwork

Um... no. I'm thinking something along the lines of an American-style Vampire Hunter X.

When I was driving once I saw this painted on a bridge:
"I don't want the world, I just want your half"

do you mean Vampire Hunter D?
because that's just a generic anime style
and really it depends on what kind of Castlevania it is
if it's more about Belmonts, I'd say 2D
but if it was about Alucard or whomever, i'd say awesome 3D
edit: to clarify, I say this because the "metroidvanias" are so detailed that man that would take for-fucking-ever to do with 2D and probably cost a fuckton of money
he admitted it a while ago, but only if you read closely.
I had nothing to do with the linking of my name with CASTLEVANIA, have never played the game and have never clapped eyes on James Jean, whom I believe is a popular illustrator with the young people of today. I have no further comment to make at this time.
Obviously, I am to be trusted in all things.

He's never played the game -- so? He didn't link his name with Castlevania -- So?
He's never clapped eyes on James Jean -- but I bet he talked with him on the phone a lot.
Is Castlevania still a big deal? I thought it pretty much peaked with Symphony of the Night and just fell into a rapid decline right after. I'll admit, I'm not the gamer I once was, but the 3D games on PS2 were pretty mediocre, and the most recent ones to have any kind of buzz were the ones for Gameboy SP and DS, and I wasn't too impressed by them either.

If you don't like Aria of Sorrow or Dawn of Sorrow, how could you like Symphony of the Night?
It's not a gameplay thing, since I like the Castlevania with tinges of Metroid thing, but the plot. Badass son of Dracula with the power to take on numerous vampiric forms, searching for the latest Belmont vampire slayer, and ending in a grand showdown with his damned father v.s. Japanese high school exchange student from the future who can throw spears and stuff.
But then, SotN came out when I was in middle school, so there's a definite nostalgia facotr at work, and I played Harmony of Dissonance right before Aria of Sorrow, so I was kind of burned out on the whole sidescrolling exploration thing. Maybe I should go back and give it a replay some day.

what
how can you say SotN's plot is better than Aria's? You didn't even get AoS's plot right. He's not from the future, it's set in the future
Symphony of the Night's plot is
"Son of Dracula rebels against his heritage and fights his father."
Aria of Sorrow is
[spoiler:812c10c68f]
"Teenager ends up in Dracula's Castle that was thought to be destroyed except now it's in an eclipse and hey, turns out he's supposed to be the new Dracula."[/spoiler:812c10c68f]

If I'm from 2006 and he's from 2030-whatever, then to me he is a high school student from the future.
Honestly though, I'm probably just bitter that they haven't made a Castlevania spinoff focused solely on Grant DaNasty from Castlevania III. Nothing's cooler than a pirate with a shiv crawling on walls and ceilings and shit.

This looks promising.
I haven't liked the series since Hawkeye was on the team.
Oh yeah, Castlevainia. Awesome.

So yeah, he totally was working on it.

Jeez, I first heard about this, like
two years ago

Not really.
I mean, if they could get the character designer from Vampire Hunter D, it wouldn't work because then it would, well, look like Vampire Hunter D.
But something similar wouldn't be too bad.

You are broken.

"in the future" is what you're looking for
Please note that it clearly contains Castlevania III characters. Thus making this the best thing ever.
