I was rewatching some episodes and there definitely was a gem civil war.
In serious Steven the entire inverse pyrsmd is full of glyphs depicting Rose quartz fighting a male with a triangular gem and figures worshipping something.
Oh and the crow from Opal was a myraid gem fusion and she bubbled them with that arrow blast.
Maybe the war was over the age-old struggle of boys vs. girls!
Everyone got in on it! Like, almost every single person from town showed up in it, and also Greg and Connie and Lion were in the midst of the big fight at the end.
Also, Steven used his shield again! On purpose!
Lapis is such a sad character. And she's left us with even more questions than ever.
I think you are right about that, Goatmon. There are definitely ramifications and extenuating circumstances regarding all the stuff that went down in Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem.
This is serious biz, if Garnet aint gonna be chill and patient with Steven.
Pearl has twice given Steven powerful artifacts that cause major problems.
Lapis was shocked that Steven can heal. It may be more rare than we thought.
Steven can neutralize gem powers with his weapon.
Quartz is a crystal so the Crystal Gems are definitely named for her. I'm thinking the gems are least two factions, the Crystal gems aka followers of Rose and the Triangle Gem we saw in the glyphs from Serious steven.
Red Eye came from space but we've seen monsters like the crow and Ice Kreemzek that clearly have been there a while. Most monsters seem to be guarding artifacts so I'm guessing there's two kinds. Some are corrupted and out of habit protect ancient stuff and others that attack the temple directly which might be made by prisoners .

1. The Red Eye is NOT a gem.
2. The Pufferfish is DEFINITELY Watermelon Tourmaline.

The more I watch this show the more I appreciate the character development of the gems themselves
Garnet being immensely strong but also immensely restrained
Pearl being graceful and precise but also obsessive and condescending
Amethyst being flexible but also sloppy
Steven being curious and kind but also naive and incapable of harnessing his power
still haven't figured out what Rose's dichotomy would be, but it probably has to do with her incredible selflessness leading to her own self destruction
plus then even the supporting characters have their own personalities and augh I love this show so much and want more
Rose had that pretty epic weapon collection so pacifist she was not. But I think its clear for her child she wanted something else. Im also thinking her Fountain "fixed" his gem so that it works better with his personality

On Tuesday I had a long overdue conversation with my dad about patching up a miscommunication we had a couple years ago, which had led me to feeling like I couldn't trust him
so this episode hit me really really hard in a good way and I love this show so much you guys
I think this is the first time we've seen Pearl get really reckless.
At least, to an extent that put anyone other than herself in direct danger.
I don't count the sword hologram bit, since that seemed more like an old program going haywire. In this case there was some clear desperation behind her actions.
guess I'll catch this tomorrow on demand. I just change the channel for a couple minutes because I can't stand this clarence episode and boom, its 700pm
please CN, please give steven universe a 1/2 hour time block and just get rid of clarence.

Now you are confined to your room for the next 50 years. With only the filmiest of windows to peer out of, but it's never the same as when you were there.
That's the closest analogy I can think of for the Gems being stranded with broken warp gates... except they've been stranded for millennia...

He's actually gotten a decent handle on things by the latest episode.
Dude's really getting the hang of it, and it's super cool.
I also like how the theme of his powers (and his mother's I presume) is all about love, which is absolutely perfect.
I wonder what Rose had.
