an acceptable alternate topic: inspector javert from les miserables
Book or musical?
musical, since i just saw it the other night
What did you think? I find the whole musical to be an exercise in milking a plot that is "meaningful" because it has death and love, and milking a score that sounds "inspirational" because it's got a descending bass line. I think they did a really good job of taking the book down from 1,000 pages of inane political ramblings to an actual plot, but I really don't see what all the fuss about it being so great and inspirational is.
i thought it was great, especially since i had a hard time even starting the book a few years ago ( i still haven't read it)
the guy who played javert was fuckin' awesome, too
Well the show is a vocalists wet dream. Forgot to mention that. They also do a really good job of allowing really good actors and actresses to do really well.
Really I like everything about the show except the book and music. Everything else about the show is great. Like, seriously, not just saying "lol save the show the show is good".
Have you heard "Martin Guerre" the musical? It's by the same guys. It's absolutely hilarious if you've seen Les Mis.
I’ve past that little black building
down on the corner so many times
and I often wondered
if anyone lived there.
it looked like an empty dwelling
with its cracked façade
dusty windows
curtains withdrawn
no lights
no signs of anything.
I talked to jewel about it
she had the same idea.
That old guy
that always hangs out
outside
the liquor store
next door
(röeghmann)
Told me he’d once seen the devil
in one of those windows up there
blowing him a kiss.
He had a certain serious (almost eerie)
look on his face as he said it
as if he’d actually seen the dark lord
‘said he´d seen him
throw trash out of the back window
that he’d been stealing the furniture
from whatever bars
closed down in the neighbourhood
but he’s an old guy
probably delirious.
So anyway
the other day me and ricco
decided to break in.
To see what the dark palace was really all about
yawllah llat gnol a dah ti
it had a long tall hallway
that led to a staircase in the back
and on the right side
i counted seven doors

I have to leave this thread for, get this, a rehearsal for a musical. Not Les Mis though. Assassins. Which is such a good score. And the P/V part is impossible to play, and the Keyboard part that I'll actually be playing for the production of the show has made up instruments like "Huff 'N' Stuff" and "Mr. Mellow".

I can't imagine leaving the forums. Maybe when I get a job that actually demands something of me, but until then, how would I easily occupy my 8-hour shifts at the library, on the weekends, when all we have are the 8 college students on campus not recovering from hangovers?
so true, bongi
i like people who think they are down to earth when they talk to someone equally as pretentious as they are.

Oh, and it's too gay.(This thread).
sounds very Tom Waits
i hate that calling anything pretentious makes oneself seem pretentious
Something happened to someone, there was some stuff, then some more stuff and a thing.
