It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
For those of you that have already read everything Pratchett has written, you can get another taste to keep you going by reading Larry Niven's Rainbow Mars. Apparently he started it as a collaboration with Pratchett and some of his ideas are still in the finished novel.

Along those same lines, I saw the 4th book in The Long Earth series, The Long Utopia pop up on Amazon for preorder for release in June.
In a similar way, many net server and website administrators are adding the text "X-Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchett" to the headers their machines share with every computer that requests web pages from them.

I'm glad he had agency over his end, that he didn't suffer needlessly
but there is one fewer kind, gentle, and intelligent person who can articulate those things influentially and we so desperately need it
it wasn't often I read a book and came out a better person for it

I hate that I have to add Pratchett to my list of people who I regret never getting to meet in person. It's a list that's growing depressingly long, of late.
But, so long as a man's name is spoken...
