I'm surprised we're not seeing a Macy's style parade with a week-long celebration, giant Gabe floats crowding the skyline. His birthday's kind of a big deal, you know.

The Taken King is much improved, but to your point, every game is repetitive, and Destiny's gun play is fun all by itself. Also you only hear the loud minority on the internet, there are millions of people playing Destiny, just apparently no one you know.
American bacon is best bacon hands down.
Small groups of the outraged vocally complain about Destiny. Then everyone else buys it and enjoys it. It's a pretty successful game.
Not much interest in Destiny, but I wouldn't say "Bungie can do no wrong" in many people's eyes. The Halo series is one of the most unfairly criticized 'successful-because-it's-a-solid-game' games, right up there with WoW. Mike and Jerry tend to like the games they like without really being touched by whether the internet has declared that you are supposed to dislike them.
They look okay to me. Tycho : Blue, Spencer : Orangeish.

But as we all know, Mike and Jerry don't promote things that they don't genuinely like. Indeed, Jerry has only recently converted to a Destiny fan.
That first one you linked actually has ham on it, not bacon. Look at the other sandwiches below that specify bacon.

Now they've released the Taken King, which is damn near a relaunch of the game entirely (in fact to buy it new now you just buy that). It is excellent.
Sounds like you've never played it. The gunplay and game mechanics are quite good (Halo like). There were some issues with the initial release, but Bungie has steadily improved it. Taken King was a substantial rework.
I think that's an unfair characterization of Destiny players. If anything, Destiny players bitch about Bungie more than anyone else. So it's hardly a case of rose-colored glasses.

This can be said about any large game in existance, really. However, depending on severity of those compaints you can find what kind of problems the game has(i.e if some complaint is being repeated over and over by different people on different platforms, then you can't just write it off as a "loud minority being angry for no reason").
That is true, and I'm not saying that Destiny is without problems, especially pre-Taken King. But you also can't overlook that something getting popular usually causes hate solely because it is the cool thing to do.
Obviously it is, which is why I try, if possible, to try the game out myself before I have an opinion regarding that. Well, for the most part. I don't really like CoD despite not playing latest installments. But it's not like the game changes drastically between them.
If only more people were as rational as you are.
