    The Martian: pretty good.

Though if you've seen the trailers, it's pretty much 2½ hours of that.

And the beauty was so many people didn't know

Big props to their composition guys.

I didn't mean there was no CG or even only a little CG, just that most of the shots in the movie were composited from multiple real things that they captured on film rather than generated entirely in a computer. According to George Miller, they mostly used computers to paste things together and color correct. Very few elements were wholesale fabricated.

they actually cut Charlize Theron's arm off for the film.

And replaced it with a green prosthetic so that the chroma key would work properly

True. But then if that were the current rate of completely CG explosions in movies the world would be an objectively better place.

The last one? That was practical as well, they used a super slomo camera. It's on the DVD extras. Yeah they added in the bit with the steering wheel but that shot was mostly non-CG.

They take a long time to play through a game (both the basic and advanced versions) but they are super fun.

Some house rules help IMO but people eventually work those out on their own.

The biggest house rule for Advanced Civ (board game) that I would recommend to anyone without qualification is a limitation on the number of times a particular player can be affected by the civil war calamity.

The rules make it so that Civil War doesn't hurt very bad if you're not doing well, but if you are doing well and it hits you it wrecks you. If you then manage to claw your way back to a good position it can hit you again, and again. It's far too punitive and random. We instituted a rule that no given player can be the victim or beneficiary of the civil war more than once. You only get your civ chopped in half and given to another player once at most, and if you are in last place and are the recipient of the civil war and manage to get back to last place again, then guess what you're playing badly: no more free stuff for you.

I got the PAX east guitar in the mail a couple days ago, and I'll get an adapter for my Fender solid wood unit. The USB mic will work too!
