I dunno if thatll work in higher difficulties, the 44 does so little damage as to not be worth using
my combat rifle is 171 damage a shot and it's semi automatic with a decent rate of fire and I still get killed in straight up shootouts sometimes
Is that with legendary modifiers or perks? Because I'm pretty sure I have both a .44 and a combat rifle upgraded for max single target damage, and the combat rifle is far inferior on damage.
Additionally, VATS is important. The .44 shoots faster than anything in Vats besides the 10MM or the double barreled shotgun. It's DPS is pretty terrible if you aren't using VATS, but VATS alpha strikes have always been the strongest style in Fallout.
hmm maybe I should use the 44 story reward (recharges AP on kill)
if I could find a 2 shot 44 (thats what my combat rifle is) it might be pretty good, the rifle isn't super great in vats but it does ridiculous damage in regular fights (and has a 40 round magazine)
Nope; recharges AP on crit.
You can enter feedback loops with it that gives you effectively infinite AP.
That strategy takes more bullets, though. Admittedly you probably just need like 15 combined luck and Agi with the 10mm or .44 to get infinite VATS rather than to spend perks.
