I find I lack the cultural background to understand it.

When I was a kid I used to think Storm was just really tan because I didn't understand that a black woman could have long flowy white hair.

In your childhood defense every artist basically drew her as a white lady with blue eyes and the colorists dabbed a little pale brown down for skin tones
Since I grew up going to mostly black schools and had a lot of black female teachers I wonder if this was actually the problem. I KNEW what black women looked like and it wasn't storm.
