Kinda disagree for the Plains (because it's.. Plainsy) and the Forest, because it's good, personally. But agree especially on the Island and Mountain. Ravnica had better touches to make the Mountains more than just "really tall buildings" and the Islands more than "city with a river".

The more is see the forest the more I like it, and the plains would absolutely be gorgeous without the stupid horns in the background.

Why doesn't anyone think it could be Persist? They can finally reprint Reveillark like they've always wanted.
Reveillark doesn't have Persist, it has Evoke.
And yeah, Persist is also possible. That said, the last time we saw Persist we also had Wither. Without a way to inflict -1/-1 counters directly, Persist gets a lot more powerful because it's basically free. Not quite Undying powerful, but up there.

It doesnt necessarily have anything to do with poison and infect really isnt that bad but even if you felt it was before I think The last few years have taught us that when wotc revisits a broken mechanic they will be way too gun shy.

Will there be a modern masters prerelease?
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Not insofar as an official pre-street date event like the normal block sets. Many stores do offer release week events for supplemental products though, so ask about that (or suggest they have one if they aren't yet!)
One of the main purposes of a prerelease (these days) is to help get new cards into players' hands so they can have them when the set becomes legal in constructed formats upon actual release.
With a set made up entirely of reprints like the Masters editions, there isn't any pressing need to do so before street date.
I've never played with -1/-1 counters so I'm super stoked for that. I love new experiences. I had an interesting thought upon hearing about the -1/-1s: what if instead of Devotion for the new God cards they use placing a number of -1/-1 counters on your own creatures in some fashion? Sort of making them more parasitic than the Theros gods, feeding off their worshippers actual life force?
There's even the possibility for interesting Lore there: if the Amonkhet Gods are creations of Bolas, perhaps he engineered them thus so that they actual are siphoning power to HIM ultimately? We know he's interested in reclaim his pre-mending power level.
