There is no "original". You copy a human, you have two beings that are exactly equally that same human, with the same experiences, and the same illusion of continuity.

So in regards to downloading your brain I've always wondered how would that work exactly. What happens to your consciousness once you do? Are you just making a copy of yourself and the original just stays in your meat body or can you truly move everything including that into hardware? There are just so many questions and ones I feel we'll have answers to soon given the current trajectory science is on with human/machine integration.
It's a common debate in the Teleporter problem in philosophy.

If I could truly do that then ya sign me up for a robo-lady body cause I'd be totally down for it.

Does the meat truly make the person or is it the experiences and the history of the person? If a person has their brain physically removed and put into a robot body, are they still the original or is their now-empty husk the original?
If I copied my neural structure, personality, and memories into a computer network and then made another copy to implant into a spider-bot, would we not be the same person to begin with? What happens if my bio-body begins deteriorating in old age and I begin to lose my mind while my android counterpart still remembered being me during all my birthdays, still had knowledge of my social and romantic connections and still had my personality?
if we built a second ship of theseus the first one is still being replaced

The Ship of Theseus would be my solution. Instead of just copying your consciousness from your real brain over to the computer/robobrain, you share the workload between them.
At first, you'll be 99% brain, 1% CPU. Over time, you move more functionality over to the latter, which hopefully would maintain continuity.

Well in theory if you implanted your brain into a robotic body then that would be the "original" you since your consciousness would be contained therein. The meat-body would be the empty shell.
However if you made a copy then yes there would be 2 of you at that point. The original meat version and the new cyber/neural version.
Now if you could (for lack of a better term) cut and everything from meat and paste it to hardware including transferring the consciousness then it could be that the original you was transferred. That's kind of the sticking point right now. What exactly makes up consciousness and if it is just neural impluses/data then how would you move it.
have I already told the fencing story a billion times, here?
because I was taking a fencing class when I started HRT
and, one day, received a dead hit on my nipple from a foil
very pain
That sounds really un-fun!
Fencing sounds cool though.
In unrelated news, tonight is the night of our local PFLAG meeting. I've got my fancy purple toenail polish to show off! Haha
I haven't worn my signature purple nail polish in, like...god, maybe eight months or something. I really need to fix that.
I had borrowed some of my wife's green stuff and it looked ok? I liked it but then she got me this shiny purple gel polish and it is apparently totally my jam. So yay for learning about new things I like!
I tried reading transformation fic, but it gave me paws.

Dear Santa. Please get me the 12" Placebo/Bowie (Without You I'm Nothing) picture disc, and the top Brian Molko is wearing in the interview sections of the video Placebo released today to promote it.
I have no interest in having a digital copy of me live forever. I'm the meat version, I don't give no shits about no synthetic version and I ain't gonna create life just to fantasize about living vicariously through them.
In Iain Banks novels, people who expect to be in physical danger for whatever reason create copies of their mindstates, so that if they bite it that copy can get stuck in a new body. And I guess that way society retains my wonderful personality but man I do not give a fuck that a copy of my mind from two weeks ago is immortal, that guys a moron and I'm still dead

I attended a regional fencing competition in college and saw some stuff.
One guy got slashed from his taint all the way to his chest, with a temporary scar all the way over his body. He ended up on the floor, trying to not vomit from pain.
Another dude, a guy from our school, got hit in the arm so badly his arm became temporarily paralyzed.

And here I was thinking fencing might be interesting to try.

The worst I got from fencing was a loss in a tournament when the deciding point was scored with a foil that had lost the rubber nubbin at some point in the round, which stabbed me hard enough in the bicep to pierce jacket, pauldron and flesh and draw a whoooole lot of blood.
Deciding point that knocked me out of the tournament.
In the arm.
With foils.
(For those not in the know, a hit on the arm is off-target and does not score a point when fencing with foils. It was obvious where I got hit, and the opponent should not have gotten that point.)

That's RIDICULOUS. Were you guys using the electric set-up or relying on refs to call the point?
Because the electric set up makes this maybe understandable. The officials get really reliant on it, and don't bother looking where the weapon's actually making contact. (Which was the case with the one tournament I did, when the other person's epee started registering hand-touches from contact with my bell. Until my dad finally said something and I was allowed to switch to my brother's weapon.) You have to challenge the point.
But if you were using refs, those guys were jerks and not doing their jobs.

You fools can enjoy living in this decaying realm speeding towards the heat death of the universe, I'm going to go live in software.
This is called heaven and you can get there by accepting Christ into your heart
Slow down with all this technical mumbo-jumbo. Is Heaven a subscription service? I'm not giving this Christ company access to my accounts.
Welp. We shall see!
So...how does everyone like the new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
