even "8-bit" is probably more than what you're thinking of. The Famicom and Game Boy soundchips are the most popular and most well-known 8-bit soundchips but there's a lot of other ones out there.
What's important is using an authentic chip or at least emulator and not just applying shitty filters in Fruity Loops.
