I was kind of prepared to lose a lot of respect for a lot of people over this, and I'm really glad to see it seems like it's going better than I expected.

Looking at Arthur Gies' tweets, at least some of the Polygon people have known about the allegations since earlier today. So yeah, considering they're all speaking out now, some sort of embargo (for lack of a better term) has lifted
I feel like I've been trained by other nerd industries to expect a "We looked into it he's totally fine stop talking about it." official response.
Games journalism isn't a huge industry, and reputation is important. Covering for Nick in the face of something like this could cost them a lot in terms of collaborations, access to sources, potential new hires, etc
Doubly so since Polygon seems take being an inclusive community pretty seriously.
At times like this I wonder if convos like this one are happening on forums across the internet
For sure. Through the MBMBaM FB group, I saw there was a post to a neogaf thread about it, someone posted the screenshot of a CGI subreddit topic about it, the news spread pretty far this time.
I'm honestly shocked that it got this big this time, it's not like this is a super new thing or anything
It's never been out in the open, as evidenced by how much it's been explained in this very thread over the past day. His dickbaby behavior got enough negative attention that people decided to be a bit more upfront about it and that got the ball rolling.

And the more people stand up, the easier it is for others to do the same
I guess stuff first crossed my radar about Nick being problematic in March or April
but then like, literally up until two days ago it was essentially all in the category of "people are in the know of how bad things actually are but the rest of y'all are gonna have to accept that they're waiting to come forward" and that was a hard thing to respond to with much more than "well, I'll take that move in good faith when it comes, then"
I lost a friend during Gramblegrate. He was one of the die-hard "it's actually about..." people. I couldn't handle having those arguments with him over and over again with always the same results. Especially since video games were the primary thing we had in common.
This sucks.
I know I was one of the doubters previously because I didn't see any proof, and I apologize for that.
I also apologize for only believing it when Video Games Men started talking about it as well.

Something I learned a few years ago, and again when a prominent Canadian radio host turned out to be an abuser, is that women talk to each other. it shouldn't really come as a surprise, but it turns out that when there's a problem with a dude and women don't feel safe coming forward, they warn each other.
The guy behind the JL8 comic is another example. Dudes will often be completely oblivious that anything is going on, even while every single woman in the community/social circle has been quietly warned about it.
When there was first mention of something like this a month or so ago, it seemed all too familiar. For a reason, it turns out.

Considering the timing, that's gotta be it.
Pat Gill (video guy at Polygon) RT'd Griffin's comments, so Polygon people are coming out of the woodwork now, I guess.

Yeah, and there's a little more commentary from other publications too, like Patrick Klepek and Austin Walker both putting some Twitter statements out

right now the biggest dedicated thread to this is apparently fucking NeoGAF, if that's any indication of how widespread things have gotten
also wow this tweet I made a couple weeks back is WAY too hot of a take in 20/20 hindsight (even if it was more directed at his Splatoon 2 comments)
That's actually way not too hot enough in hindsight.

I part of me feels a little bad for anyone losing their income with the way our country is now though. Even if they totally deserve to be fired.
Nick doesn't seem like the kind of person who's going to learn anything from this shit though, so I guess that's how it's gotta be.
Kuchera.

I barely know this nick person so it's nice and easy to say ay fuck that guy!

Ben kuchera has been openly racist in the past
I can't remember if I've heard loose talk about him being a creep, but I'd believe it

very unsurprised if Ben Kuchera was an awful human being
but he has a longer history in the industry so that might protect him more
I'd hope not but in any case it would probably take a more volatile incident for people to come forward because of his standing
