Scott Brown, Republican governor of Massachusetts, has the highest approval rating among governors in the nation. 75 percent approval rating.
But that joke about also reduces political genius to winning elections. Ted Kennedy had a lot of influence well beyond just winning elections and being another vote in the Senate.
Is anyone in the thread actually planning to watch? Or are we all just going to wait for some other braver souls to filter the highlights for us?
Instead tonight I'm planning to watch the Captain America trilogy, get drunk, and eat an unreasonable amount of pizza, while pretending that Chris Evans is my boyfriend and/or president.
Absolutely not. There’s nothing going to be said that I’d need to hear live.
And while this next part depends more on everybody else doing their part, it would bring me joy to add to the pile of this administration’s accomplishments “lowest rated SOTU ever.”
If it gets too much to handle without absurd amounts of booze, I'll shut it off because tomorrow is leg day, and I ain't skippin' leg day with a hangover 'cause of this shithead.

You know, a surefire way to prevent the "HE'S SO PRESIDENTIAL" narrative would be stage a walk-out. Trump would devolve into a slobbery, ranting mess immediately.

Dems will never stage a walkout, they prefer to cling to civility and politeness even after the past year

a lot of dems are just refusing to go
but yeah, a walkout would be the kind of performative bullshit I could actually get behind
I can't wait until someone like rolls their eyes at a comment and we all get to hear about how it's the worst most disrespectful thing ever to happen at a SotU.

I've seen a lot of journalists own up to the fact that "he's so presidential! he didn't shit his pants even once!" stuff from last year was a misstep.
I really hope that is a growing trend. I feel like journalists and their outfits have gotten lost in the concept of being "fair." Rather than hold it up to being a matter of fairness of truth & fact, they make it about giving equally positive coverage of this political team or that.
Man WTF is this dude even going to talk about tonight? Have we seen a copy of the speech yet? They normally release the speech early right?

I'm wondering if he's going to use the speech tonight to announce anything to do with the "memo" or how his administration seems intent on "purging" the FBI.
He's KNOWS he can lie now. He gets away with it all the time! He's DUMB but he's not dumb.
He's going to say what the above tweet says - lets work together. Lets protect everyone. Lets get work done. Lets AMERICA! Lets not get distracted and lets focus on being GREAT!!!
He's not going to say anything divisive to Dems because he's a coward and they're sitting right there and he can't say anything to anyones face.

It's not like he'll stick to it anyway, even "very serious presidential Trump" is gonna throw some crazy ad libs in, especially once the Republican half of the chamber keeps applauding for five minutes straight after every line.
.... Actually this may be their strategy, clap so long he only has to say a few sentences to reach an hour.

Excerpts of Joe Kennedy response: "It would be easy to dismiss the past year as chaos. Partisanship. Politics. But it’s far bigger than that. This administration isn’t just targeting the laws that protect us they are targeting the very idea that we are all worthy of protection."
More: "Bullies may land a punch. They might leave a mark. But they have never, not once, in the history of our United States, managed to match the strength and spirit of a people united in defense of their future."

The response should be a jerkoff motion in the air. Especially in response to that "New American Moment" shit.
By the way, $50 that fuckface Trump tries to trademark that.
Dems are definitely not sending their best to answer this, huh.
SotU rebuttals have mostly turned out to be ways for people to highlight that they’re chumps, and bleed away whatever momentum their political career had accumulated before that. It’s a sacrifice play - by selecting this guy, the Dems aren’t signaling any great confidence in his future. And if he somehow manages to knock it out of the park, they can rally behind him and pretend that was the plan all along.
That’s how the last few SotU rebuttals from the Republicans went too, some pawn they gave lip service to seeing as a ‘rising star’ before shoving them into the line of fire. I can’t remember paying attention to SotU rebuttals before the Obama years though. And can’t recall one ever mattering enough to make an impact in the Bush years. So it’s not inconceivable that there’s an old form that could be worth returning to, but I really doubt it.
Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan
I want one and only one thing tonight, and that is for fewer than 30 million people to watch this thing, making it the lowest number of viewers since before 1993 (Wikipedia only goes back to that far).

As the hour draws nearer though I'm like "ehhhhhhhhhh fuck that." I'll just wait for the blooper reels to come out from journalists and comedians.
Edit - And yes I'm aware the entire speech will itself be a blooper reel.
She poo pooed on the sox like less than a month from the election... she was an idiot.
She was a particularly awful campaigner.
It's one of the things they're famous for, actually.

Trump could shit right on the podium, and it's just par for the course.
The media would spend twice as much time going after the Dems because impartiality or something.

No matter how many of them keep dying in fiery plane crashes, they just keep pumping out more!
I seriously doubt the speech is done being written.
An AP reporter is posting some of it.
Winning, winning, winning. So much winning.
Mexicans are bad. Democrats are pussies. Tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts.
Winning.
Oh so just total bullshit.
Yup. The total bullshit that will get "this was a great speech" from Chris Cillizza.

It would be terrible idea for them to do so. State of the Union responses don't have a good track record when parties try to use them to boost people.
Some excerpts from Kennedy's response:
By the way, $50 that fuckface Trump tries to trademark that.
