orphea: there's literally zero reason this needs to be a new hero. she looks cool and probably a lot of fun but it'd be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better if this was assigned to an existing blizzard lore character. that fact alone makes it incredibly irksome
leoric: that skin is fantastic
changes: i have absolutely no idea who these changes are for. was this something people were clamoring for somewhere? there's dozens of things i'd rather they address first

Lots of people were? It makes things much less snowbally.

i guess. i mean snowball effects haven't been the issue i've had with the game lately. admittedly it was a serious problem for a while but on the off chance i log in to play i have much larger complaints that have existed for much longer
I think orphea is a good idea. Heroes of the storm should have at least a few of its own champions. I am frankly surprised it took them this long to add one.

My knee-jerk response to Orphea was "oh, they're just making up any character they want now?"
It's similar to my knee-jerk dislike of all Overwatch heroes for a while; it all seemed a little too Hail Satan to me. "We'll start a new game, with a bunch of new guys (and new $kin$), and then we'll bring all those guys to HotS too! $$$$$$$"
But then I thought to myself, "Self... How is that any different than Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo casts of characters? They made up all those too!"
So I've made peace with it, and idc where they get their hero ideas from anymore.
So on the eve of new game-changing balance updates coming up, what do people think of the last round(s?) of those in the last year or so?
The Stealth changes?
No building ammo? Buffed minion siege damage?
I like the stealth changes and the minion damage, but honestly I'm still kind torn on the ammo nerfs. I liked being able to drain towers of ammo. It was easier to see the impact you could have when pushing a lane. But it may have just been healthier overall for the game to always have buildings be a threat?

i was leaning negative but in a "eh it was nice the way it was" until i realized that if they announced they were reverting those changes at this blizzcon instead of the other stuff i'd be really happy
Removing Promotion/Demotion games, Loss Forgiveness for games in which a player disconnects or leaves? A seasonal ranked quest so you have to keep playing to get rewards instead of just playing 10 to finish your placements and leaving?

I like the ammo changes and think they should bring side towers back while keeping the stronger forts. A concerted push will still knock them over quickly, but as it is with only one source of damage coming out it's still trivially easy to dive someone under towers with any level of coordination (and a summon, Malf was infuriating for this when he was good). You should be able to hide behind your fort and feel safe.
Stealth change was also good.
The scaling rework that was like three damn years ago now was and still is a mistake and I will die on this hill.
Stitches and Sylvanas rework coming in December. Since Specialist is going away, sounds like they're leaning into ranged assassin instead.
Sylv already is a Ranged Assassin.
I mean that's the secret about most if not all Specialists, they're also just plain Assassins. They're Assassins that do Assassin-level damage that tend to have really good waveclear and/or siege potential. But so do lots of other regular ol' Assassins.
They're removing Specialist because it's simply vestigial at this point. It doesn't mean anything anymore. There used to be a "Specialist Tax" in that Speccies would do less damage than Assassins because of all the other stuff they had, but that's no longer the case.
Anyway, I hope they finally rework her Trait and get rid of the building disable~
Yeah, she looks awesome, but still a bummer we only got one

2019 Plans:
🔹Combining Hero League and Team League
🔹Reduced Placement Matches and New Ranked Questline
🔹Removing Promotion/Demotion Games
🔹Removing Rank Points
Combining HL and TL is super interesting. If they tighten up MMR requirements and address issues with MMR seeding/decay, I think it's a good change. Removing rank points and turning it into a questline (maybe? it's unclear) is a great idea, too. I've long been a proponent of decoupling progression from rank/MMR, so maybe this is a move in the right direction.
thrall i can see, sure. xul maybe but that's a bit of a stretch???
also man there's way more ranged assassins than melee huh
I think they're trying to differentiate between melee assassins and melee bruisers by qualifying the former as more pick-based/tf-focused heroes that in some cases aren't designed to stay in the melee for very long. Melee bruisers on the other hand are designed to have tools to allow them to sustain in team fights or in the offlane.

I love the aesthetic of Orphea's attacks and spells, I don't much like her actual character design.
I'm totally fine with the idea of Nexus getting more developed lore and having Nexus-specific heroes.

Being unfairly silenced/banned only to have it come out that they were in fact super toxic.
