Aside from being hideously stupid and racist London has fallen always makes me laugh with the scene where there's like 30 terrorists pretending to be police. Like at a certain point did nobody say, hey there are a lot of new guys I've never seen before showing up to work today with weird accents. I'm pretty sure there were more terrorists pretending to be cops than actual cops.
Ashton has a purple belt in bjj but it's from one of those dudes who runs one of those "online academies" and will hand out belts to famous people for publicity. In his promotion photo Ashton has his belt tied wrong, so I dunno.

Ashton could have an actual purple belt and I still put all my money on Seth Rollins murdering him in a fight.

So Mortal Engines is looking to be the flop of the year.
I dunno, Robin Hood could give it a run for its money?
I believe Mortal Engines had a LOT bigger budget
But has a more original plot. And I've heard that though people are rating it low, some people, even some in this thread, have said that it's not that bad. However, I've heard literally nothing good about Robin Hood at all from anyone ever.
I thought it was good. I’ve never read the books and I admit it has issues but it’s not even close to being a “bad movie,” in my opinion.

No Country for Old Men is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time.
It's so fantastic, on every level.
The coin flip scene in the gas station is some of the most effective suspense put to film.
Yep.
It's absolutely beautiful, and the whole production is just so tight, the sound, the costuming, the art direction, they're all absolutely perfect.
And the performances!
I've always had a soft spot for Tommy Lee Jones, but it feels like he didn't even have to do any acting, he's so natural. Javier Bardem did so well I still have trouble reading him as the actual character he's playing in his other roles years later.
Tommy Lee Jones' bit at the end about the dream of his father is just so beautiful, and sad, and hopeful.
"And then I woke up."
I love the conversation he has with his uncle
interestingly, that bit also helped me to understand Blood Meridian better

So the movie that peter Jackson actually directed that sort of came out this weekend, the restored footage wwi documentary "they shall not grow old" is apparently really good
the actual best celebrity from iowa is the band slipknot
i have to admit it's been a bit scary since all of them merged into an enormous flesh golem, but it is much easier to just say "hello slipknot" than to try and remember 9 individual names

Yooo I finally watched that Han Solo movie a couple days ago and...it might be my favorite new Star Wars movie? I guess I wasn't expecting much, but it completely blew me away. TFA and Rogue One both put me to sleep, and I really liked The Last Jedi, but Solo blew it out of the water.
It really helped that it was legitimately and consistently funny all the way through. It never lingered on the grim shit for too long.
I believe it was @2 Marcus 2 Ravens who talked about the lighting a while back and...yeah. frickin wow. The "natural" lighting (if that's the right word) was incredible. So rich and uh...thick. you know. Really just such a gorgeous movie.
Which brings me to a small thing: the car chase scene or scenes were done really well. Huge contrast with Venom, which I watched the night before and loved, but had a terrible car chase that I didn't really like.
Robot revolutionary! She was great. Didn't get enough screentime.
Glover as Lando was amazing. It took a minute to grow on me but once it did I loved it.
Emilia Clark was good! I only know her from Game of Thrones, so this was very cool and a little surprising.
Which brings me to my favorite thing:
(Ending spoilers)
I spent the whole movie waiting for the writers to kill her off to motivate Han, so when she fucked off to do crime at the end I literally cheered out loud in my basement
Fucking perfect.
Anyway, yeah I suspect this will be the first of the new Star Wars movies that I actually go out and buy. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I watched it a few days ago.
I'm glad someone else really liked Solo! I thought it did a prequel thing well, and the guy they got to play Solo was like honoring the Harrison Ford version without aping it.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

When the avclub switched to be more inline with gizmundo and the ilk, I thought it was embarrassingly bad, but it's and the rest of those sites have really impressed me with the continued evolution into something more and more unusable.

I have liked to varying degrees all of the new Star Wars movies
I was disappointed with TFA at first but I feel like TLJ made it better retroactively.
As a standalone movie it just didn't quite work for me...but TLJ doesn't work without it. They come together to be greater than the sum of their parts.
I liked what I saw of Rogue One but it puts me right to sleep every single time.
Also, I guess I'm just tired of planet-killing super weapons, so the one-two punch of TFA and RO was very irritating.
But now things are getting much more interesting so yay.
I like all of the new Star Warseses I've seen (TLJ, Rogue One, and TFA) and yet I have no interest in Solo. Just... not a story I needed and it dropped way too soon after TLJ so I wasn't interested in it in theaters and have just kind of... let that indifference ride, I guess.

Solo is a story that was 100% unnecessary within the context of "Star Wars" but ultimately it's a very fun movie
@hatedinamerica I’ve talked about Bradford Young a few times here. I’m so impressed with how some of his most bold work also had the highest budget with Star Wars. Solo looks real good.
This is pretty technical, but he also has done a lot of interviews online about cinematography craft. I don’t know how much use it’ll be for someone who doesn’t play with cameras and lights, but I’ve learned a ton from this stuff.
If Donald Glover doesn’t get his own Lando movie I’m going to be very unhappy.
The worst thing about Solo is that it sets Han at the beginning of New Hope as a decent guy putting up a front as a hardened criminal, and while “guy trying to seem more badass than he is” was already a part of the character, it really does undercut his arc from selfish to (more) selfless, and I think that’s a shame and was ultimately unnecessary.

Which is fine. Thats just something that irritates me and not all star wars needs to be for me.
Rogue One is fine but very messy and I didn't really love any of the cast as much as I do the likes of Finn and Rey and what have you
Solo is also fine but Han himself was the least interesting part of the whole movie and I spent most of it wishing it was just a Lando flick instead

Let's explain Han's dice ornament, let's explain where he got that specific gun, let's explain the significance of his name, etc etc etc
Like it is going down a checklist of stuff that was either seen or briefly mentioned during the original trilogy
Just make his name Han Solo! It's a cool name!
Having it be something an Imperial Officer came up with when he said he was alone is sooooo goddamn lame and unnecessary
