Hang on, I clicked "Agree" but just now remembered that as a teenager, I got two dozen free tortillas as a Christmas bonus for the grocery store I worked for.
I wasn't even mad, those were great fucking tortillas. They were made on-site in a weird tortilla robot.

One of those ones where they throw in a ball of dough and it squishes it down and cooks it? Mexican place near my old office had one of those right up front and I loved just watching it waiting for my order.
I wish people who have being doing the job for twenty years more than you and have been using the software for much longer than you would sometimes remember that you're less than a year in and won't be as efficient as them.
Some years back we switched from all the corporate employees having bonuses based on their own department's performance to having the bonus based on company-wide performance.
I wasn't in a bonus-eligible position under the old system, but from what I've heard it was terrible because departments were reluctant to work on projects with each other, because Dept A's Supercool Idea that would save the company tons of money also needed Dept B's buy-in, but if it didn't impact Dept B's metrics they put it in their backlog.
the more i have to interact with top level capitalists and other executive management folks
the more i move away from wanting to be an independent consultant so i can get mine, to wanting to invest in high-quality artisanal guillotines
Single-source?
Organic and gluten-free?
Heck no, they'll be sourced from any and all qualified union shops using sustainable practices.
No, I don't believe you can make good blades out of metal-organic compounds, all products involved in the manufacture will be explicitly identified before order completion

Talked with supervisor about that AGPA thing and said that I'd like to remain an SSA for a while because I didn't feel ready to take on a higher classification just yet. It went well and she remarked on how self evaluation was a rare quality and that she didn't want to push me. So we're going to revisit things in half a year after I have some more experience and confidence under my belt. In the meantime she's going to be looping me in on some of the stuff she does so I can get a feel for higher level work.
Monday is my birthday and normally I make sure I'm off work for it, often for several days to mentally recharge, but this time I'll be at work because here I don't feel like I'm walking a mental tightrope between psychosis and depression. The commute sucks, yeah, but I don't actively dread coming to work and it's easier to get moving in the morning for a 1.5 hour drive than it was when work was fifteen minutes away. Still looking for an apartment of course, but I only feel physically tired at the end of the long drive home, not mentally exhausted, so it's easier to bear in the interim
An outside group had bought pizza for teacher appreciation week and it was being served in the library. 40 minutes ago the fire alarm goes off.
I had to fucking yell at teachers to stop shoveling pizza onto plates and evacuate. I had to stop a teacher from trying to unlock the library and go in to get pizza after we had cleared it and were evacuating out of the building. Once outside, the students are supposed to move back past these planters to give room for emergency vehicles. Only 1 security guard and myself were trying to move them back. A dozen teachers just standing there doing nothing including curriculum specialists.
It wasn't even a senior prank. It was a legit alarm going off due to construction. Like fucking do you fucking jobs.
Sorry they weren't much help there.
I wonder if there was a degree of the bystander effect.

I actually thought of that channel while writing that.
but we're gonna need some serious R&D on the longevity of these blades
imho the guillotines are gonna be needing a lot of use.
VG-10 is a very popular blade steel amongst the pocket knife community, but I feel it will be FAR too expensive for proletariat guillotines. What does make good tough blades is old truck leaf springs, but the leaves are typically much too narrow to make a blade deep enough to completely sever a neck without forging them out quite thin, which reduces the weight of the blade, in turn requiring a longer drop.

Hello,
I left a message, hopefully we can connect today.
One of our bank accounts changed. I need to update the bank account number. I did my research but did not see an option to change this myself.

Hello,
Thank you for writing in.
Changing a bank account can take 3-5 business days after we receive the requested items. Please see the attachments.

Hello,
Can I please confirm the bank account change has gone ahead? It has been ten business days since I sent the requested items. Additionally I need assistance in properly processing the previous pay periods. I had to cut live checks from the net pay from another account for our employees and I need to ensure the taxes are paid in advance of the quarter end.

Hello,
We were informed by our bank manager today that the tax payment was attempted through our old, closed bank account. The bank manager has routed the payment to the correct account.
Additionally I would still like clarification on how to process the previous pay periods. I would like to ensure the Q1 taxes are filed correctly.

Hello,
Please be advised that ~company~ had the draft for their payroll returned due to Account Closed.
Funds will need to be wired including a $100 NSF fee.
Please be advised that until funds for this payroll are secured all processing will be put on hold. Any penalties resulting from late filing will be your sole responsibility.
Attached are the wiring instructions.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Whew, back today and there’s lots to do. But thankfully since one of the busiest attorneys and her secretaries is out today, it’s not as busy as it could be!
I do need to get started on dockets again though, as they are piling up once more.

not in order to rob them
but just to get some prompt service and make sure the bank does exactly what they're instructed to do

Did you threaten to close your account with them too? That usually gets the right people who actually care about income coming into the business instead of the overworked tech support people.

Some people are just dumb as shit until you call them on it.
I mean, don't get me wrong, calling them on it only fixes it some of the time, but it's worth a shot. There will always be people who are just weapons-grade stupid and can't be helped.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
We’re searching for available options but there are few available to our industry right now. The other alternative is to go back to filing everything myself and I can do that but it’s nice having a third party filing stuff because then when stuff goes wrong the onus is on them to fix it, and payroll taxes are notoriously tricky. (I did look into it, and we can’t use QuickBooks assisted payroll).

Back in the office. It's a beautiful day.
Downside to having a morning operation end before noon, especially on a Friday, is that you have a great sense of accomplishment and completion and then - you have half a day left.
Trying to plan my Tuesday drive up to Seattle. I don't feel like leaving super early, so I'm thinking maybe around 10am? Post rush-hour in Portland and pre-rush in Seattle (and every other damn chokepoint on the way up?)
I actually thought of that channel while writing that.

That's a shitload of work, though. What might work is old flywheels off large industrial engines - they're cast iron but they're typically 15-18 inches in diameter and they weigh a fuckload. As pinfeldorf suggested, a big and heavy enough one wouldn't even need sharpening, human necks aren't that rugged...

I've been listening to audio books from the local library, which is amazing value, but I've just had my first big disappointment where my loan is up and I'm only halfway through a book. It gave me the option to renew early but there are other people waiting and now it's estimating it'll be 2 weeks before I can check it out again.
Unless I have a lot of field work I generally only listen during my commute so it's rare that I get through a whole hour on any given day. For longer books there's just no way I can complete them during the loan period.

If there is free pizza and that pizza is at risk of being destroyed before it can be eaten it is my job to eat it.
