My ferrets do exactly the same thing.
In my head I hear them trying to say "OK DONE GOODBYE" as soon as I trim the first nail, since they either try and squirm away or they pull their leg inward so I can't see it anymore.
They've done this for six years now.

I was wondering why the water level was so low, but according to comments I had seen on that video elsewhere this was just to get the cat used to the treadmill and the water. When the actual exercise sessions come later, the water level will be higher to make use of the cats' buoyancy and help ease strain on joints.
