Man, I rented Star Voyager as a kid so many times.
I knew it sucked. I knew it was hard as hell. I didn't know it was older than many of my other favorite games.
But damnit, I wanted to get good at landing on the planets and finding the upgrades (like the all important shield or the weird bubbles on the sides that I think made hyperspace jumping faster and more accurate). But more than anything, I wanted to beat it.
I guess, thinking on it now, I've always had a fondness for space sims.

yeah that's pretty true to life. Part of the province where some of my family was from it was that or master the rhythm of maximizing unemployment insurance, finding just enough seasonal work to qualify for UI the rest of the year.
Nothing classist about a sketch recognizing the game is rigged and the people stuck playing it will look for ways to beat the system even a little.
