In hindsight, knowing what a truly Herculean task Strike Commander turned into, the
heartache and disappointment it created when its release date was constantly pushed back,
and the amount of time from our personal lives that it consumed, we probably should have
designed it differently. We wouldn't have tried to do quite as much or shot quite as high. In
our arrogance we had set out to create something that was not only better than everything
else, it was several orders of magnitude better. And it was several orders of magnitude more
expensive as well — in fact, the most expensive game ORIGIN has ever developed. Like Francis
Ford Coppola and his film crew on Apocalypse Now, we knew we were in way over our heads,
but we also knew there was no turning back.

Getting creampied to power up your magic?
What
Short answer: Shirou does huge cums in Femme-Arthur's pussy to make her stronger.
Longer answer: Back when the Fate series was starting, it was a visual novel. At the time, Japanese visual novels had a very strong genre convention to include sex scenes, even if they made no sense for the plot and even if the games were absolutely not horny at all. The author was, supposedly, basically writing h-scenes under duress from management.
Because of this, a sex scene between Shirou (wimpy low-mana swordboy protagonist) and Saber (His servant in the big tournament arc, King Arthur but a girl) was justified by "mana transfer", which basically says wimpy mana boys can give their servants more magic with their cum to supplement their wimpy mana. This has been generally discarded as the series got big enough for mainstream appeal and genre conventions shifted.

Getting creampied to power up your magic?
What
The original VN that started the whole franchise was porn, but people liked the plot enough that later entries dropped the porn.
I wouldn't say the game wasn't porn, but it wasn't porn with a surprisingly engaging plot; it was a plot-driven game with porn shoved in by management.
It's strange to me that they felt the need to add weird sex to Arthurian mythology, of all things
What's next, adding new and exciting weird sex to Greek mythology?
Fate is grab-bag-mythological-aesthetics, not specifically Arthurian. And, in fact, in a different route Shirou has studio-mandated sex scenes with the holy-grail corrupted master of Medusa, so yes, they did add weird sex shit to Greek Mythology!

I seriously wonder how long the people working on the EGS had between "This is a launcher for Epic Games" and "We're turning it into a digital storefront on Dec. 6th 2018" because it feels like it was rushed as hell if NOW is when they roll out a basic feature like achievements.
Also I wonder how many people are actually working on developing new features.
Will 'start up after an update without requiring troubleshooting' and 'not just randomly activate screen lock in the middle of doing other stuff because it wants to update RIGHT NOW and needs admin permission' come to EGS soon too

Epic is too concerned with keeping people on constant crunch working on Fortnite updates
I think they realized it's been a few months and they should probably add something to their storefront so they unshackled someone from their desks and shackled them to a different desk
oh i assure you, i am not questioning whether people still like the feature that is literally designed to give you an endorphin hit for nothing, but i was struck by how little i actually think about achievements upon reading that

I have definitely been playing a game through Epic and had the momentary thought of "I feel like I should have popped a cheevo for that" before remembering the game's provenance
It's not the number one Steam feature I want them to add (quick launching games by clicking on the icon in the taskbar probably tops that right now), but it's certainly not unwelcome either
like there's an inherent absurdity in my mind about how the concept of cheevz is considered as expected in a game as a tutorial. the road we walked to get here is surreal.

So, for some reason achievements and trophies still "matter" to me in some small way on consoles
But on PC I do not give a single fuck

I like them for the comparison, even if DS3's the only game I've ever intentionally earned them all in. It's fascinating seeing that % of players who earned X achievement drop as you move from 'start the game' down to 'beat the secret boss' or whatever.
and ESPECIALLY weird is that we expect every game's cheevos to communicate with a singular system! it's not just that we assume every game should have cheevits, it's that we expect Dark Souls 3 and Titty Clicker 69 and Jonathon Blows The Witness to all see each other and say hello and file into an orderly line to submit their data to The Number!!!

It's fun to see a list of things you've done in games you like, and to compare your list with your friends, and it's an easy way for developers to track player data
Like yeah on one hand it's kind of weird when you think about it but I don't think the appeal of the system is all that complicated
i could not care less about other players' cheevos and I don't care about mine unless they give me something fun and cosmetic in game and if they DO that means I can look at the cheevos in game and they don't need to be tied to my system at all.

I've rarely cared about achievements as like, a driving factor behind videogames
If I have just one or two left and I'm still enjoying playing the game, I might intentionally seek it out, but I also have some of my favorite games that still have a number of boxes unticked there - I know I've never aced Invisible Inc, and I have like a dozen left on Slay the Spire
I'm more likely to use them in comparison - checking my achievements against all other Steam players, see who has made certain choices in story based games, what other people tend to find easier/more difficult than I do, stuff like that

I'm almost in awe that you can still be surprised by any conceivable ending to this sentence.
Fate is not arthurian
servants are just famous or mythological figures
