I'm not always googoo gaga over all the brutal/tech death metal, but this album...incinerated me...super awesome, great lead sections, really got caught up in it.
Man I just CANNOT get into this new Vicious Rumors vocalist. His harsh vocals feel awkward and unnecessary, and even though his regular voice is in the spirit of the past singers, it just feels too over the top. I detect Ripper-isms. To be fair, a lot of the riffs here aren't anything special either.
Yeah, this particular song does have 1-2 decent guitar parts. I guess overall I can't complain too much, Vicious Rumors has put out far more good or great albums than the non-good ones. This new singer just sounds a little too isolated from what else is happening, and not only on this track.

The transition from verse to chorus and the initial riff of the chorus gave me hope, because I like big stupid fucking riffs.
Emma Ruth Rundle was the opener for Cult of Luna in March, the last concert I got to see before covid kicked in full steam. She's a really interesting lady. Strong stage presence. She performed a solo set with no backing band, doing so before the what...7 piece band that is Cult of Luna is pretty wild.
The new Napalm Death is a ton of fun too! I think this band has gotten so consistent and interesting in its old age. They have all the force of the grinding, but pepper in lots of catchy little details.
Anyway, I've got all these albums pre-ordered except the Ages and the Toxik Death, the latter of which I plan on snagging when I can find it from a more local source.
This is a left handed guitar strung like a right handed guitar with the bottom strings on top which is even fucking weirder.
I don't think anyone else in the world plays guitar this way?
I'm guessing he could only find a right-handed guitar to learn on when he started, and that's just how he learned to play. It makes sense then that when he's got a left-handed guitar that he'd string it like a right-handed guitar. It makes mention of it in passing on his Wikipedia page, but doesn't go into why, so that's just me speculating.
It's cool when you see something out of the ordinary like that. Reminds me of Max Cavalera having only four strings on his guitars, he doesn't bother with the B and top E strings.

Dan has definitely mentioned something about this in an interview or on Facebook, but I can't remember where. Maybe it was this podcast interview from last year?
Hahaha, I know you're kidding, but just the notion that this band is going further than lyrics about cannibalizing a family that you crashed your car into just made me spray my Sprite out my nose.

Spent all day at work jamming the new Unleash the Archers on repeat. Its better than Apex on a number of fronts, their songwriting has improved a shitload in the last 3-4 years:
Yeah, I agree, sometimes when these older bands are trying to remain 'relevant' topically it can get a little awkward. Most of the lyrics themselves are actually decent, but a couple of lines in there made me laugh. Yeah, we get it, all them young whippersnappers have no attention spans, let's generalize.
The album's called Punching the Sky but I hope that's not all focused on this one issue!
Holy shit is that good, this is proof that Eternal Champion should take as much time as they want between each album.
Between the album art, that banger of a track, and a need to exorcise ill feelings through simulated violence, I'm considering reinstalling the Age of Conan MMO and make a soundtrack thats just Eternal Champion and Visigoth.
Yes, this will be done over the next few hours.

Huh, that's the first Eternal Champion song I've heard that I liked. Will have to re-listen to their previous works and see if my tastes have changed in 2 years somehow or if this just sounds different from what they've done before. I saw them live and everything, but they just didn't do anything for me.

Well, a new Spirit Adrift. If it's as good as their last album, I'm getting right out of the gate.

I definitely need more smokey throated ladies in my listening life. So any recs around the two above would be much appreciated!

I don't know if she's 'smoke throated', but you'll absolutely want to check out Anna von Hausswolff if you haven't, she's got some brilliant stuff.
Others: Marissa Nadler, Bat for Lashes, PJ Harvey, True Widow, Rose Kemp, Mazzy Star, Black Mare, Maggot Heart, and Jarboe.

Checking out some random live videos, one with Dan Swano, notice he's a lefty.
Notice something else.
It's a right handed guitar, it's strung like a right handed guitar, what the fuck!?
