Good call. I'm just past halfway in A Feast for Crows.
I also just finished the newest William Gibson (Spook Country) last night. It was a pretty good read though I wish he had gone farther with the art stuff he introduced in the beginning. It also ended a little on the quick side for me. Just when I really got to know the characters it all wrapped up and ended.
yeah after the first dune they get progressively wackier and wackier.
I too read Soon I Will Be Invincible and I liked it a lot. It's light reading for sure but a fun look at the super hero genre.
I also liked Special Topics in Calamity Physics (not a science novel). It's got a girl and a murder mystery but also a surprising amount of character and revolutionary/guerilla warfare, if you can get past the narrator's crippling superiority complex
Don't bother reading past the first Dune. Trust me.
The second one, Dune Messiah, I think, wasn't too bad. I never finished the third one.
I finally got a hold of Crooked Little Vein tonight, and read most of it during my radio show.
Goddamn, it's good.
Dune has a pretty quick drop-off in quality after the first novel, but the first novel is fucking amazing. It's one of the best things I've ever read, sci-fi or otherwise. Everyone should read Dune, damnit.
I once quoted the litany against fear from dune to some of my literary type friends, you know the kind that doesn't read science fiction. They earnestly thought it was from a historical author of some kind, it was grand!
I honestly forget what Animal Farm's message was... It's been so long since I read it.
Also, has anyone read the book "the Crystalids" or something like that where the whole darn thing takes place in Newfoundland but they dont call it that and all the kids are psychic?

I read that in high school. It was pretty good from what I can remember, at least compared to most of the rest of the crap on the curriculum.
just bought God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater after a long stint of no reading
I kinda didn't really read much for fun for a year there, and a few months ago got back into books. I am overjoyed that I have a new book and am ecstatic about the prospect of reading it

Same here... I believe I read it in about 3 days compared to 3 weeks with Shakespear... oh god I hate that fucker.
my favorite high school books were 1984 and the great gatsby
I didn't have a mindgasm over 1984. I just really liked how it was written.
I ordered a copy on amazon for like 8 bucks, including shipping. It comes in about a week later and I'm reading it. A little more than half way through, I come across a receipt... a receipt from a book store about 10 minutes away from me.
Of course I read 1984, I love that book. That was where I started. I didn't know Animal Farm was a dystopic novel. I'll have to check it out.
It's not all that dystopic, more in line with the political theme. If you're looking for dystopia, pick up A Clockwork Orange, but make sure your copy has 21 chapters (not 20), especially if it's old and you're in the states.
Brave New World, 1984, Clockwork Orange, I just love the context so much
Hey, me too.
Let's make out.
O_o
I didn't know Clockwork was a book. I haven't seen the movie either, I've been meaning to though... O_o
This is one of those cases where it's definately better to read it first, then watch it. I did it the other way round, and it wasn't as good as it could have been.

yay
God damn it.
I couldn't even get that far.
I liked it, but I got lost once or twice.
Can you jog my memory in a spoiler?
Oh right, the whole spinning around like a compass or something thing?
kpop appreciation station i also like to tweet some
"Just under the crown of the arch dangled a pair of feet."
I'm picking up Fahrenheit 451 tomorrow.
If not, it needs to be part of this binge. You can add Animal Farm, too, if you like, but it's not as good.
Sometimes I wonder if Animal Farm only exists for people who don't get 1984.

From 1996.
creepy
It's also funny, I think I love the No Country movie as much as I love the novel. That never, ever happens.
