There's Treasure Everywhere! [Outdoors Thread]

This is kind of an offshoot of a bunch of threads, but hey, why not!

What gets you up and out of the house? I know we have a lot of people here that do lots of fun things! Some of us smoke meats, some of us climb mountains with our back abs, some of us buy RVs and go camping, some of us take amazing pictures of birbs, some of us do lots of stuff!

Me? I forage for wild mushrooms and various other flora. I'm thinking of starting up fishing as well. I metal detect (usually in the fall and winter months). I hunt for fossils. I'm hopefully purchasing a bike this Sunday!

Show yourself and your activities off!

This is an 8' high cliff made of 30-60 million year old shells and other aquatic fossils. Just sitting around eroding slowly.

Close up of some the cliff side.

Switching gears, here is a 2 Cent piece I found metal detecting a while back! It was minted (and quite probably dropped) in 1864

This is an english lead cloth seal made between 1703 and 1714. The Obverse has a portrait of Queen Anne. Just look at that tax! And we have zero representation! That's some crap, we should do something about that.

I also find a lot of delicious mushrooms. This is a babby Maitake (they can reach massive sizes but by the time they do, they become pretty buggy).

This is a chicken of the woods mushroom with my tire for scale. It was delicious

Show off what you're into!

I love hosting big BBQs. I live out in the country with a creek running right near my house. I love having folks over to wander in the water, rockhound and otherwise enjoy themselves. Setting out lawn games, board games and other activities. I also really enjoy just feeding folks what I hope is a real good meal. Just having a big relaxed get together outside is super relaxing to me.

There’s this tree in a different forest near where I live that has a bicycle stuck through it about thirty feet up. I’ll try to find it and take a shot for you all at the weekend.

Another forest slightly further from where I live used to be a railroad, but has now been totally reclaimed by nature. Unless you already know it’s now impossible to tell it was ever there. A decade ago you could still see the dents in the earth where the tracks were embedded, but time, rain and rotting leaves have returned it to how it was before. Anyway, visit the woods they are safe and human civilisation isn’t fleeting, soon to be forgotten, and on a long enough timescale nonexistent in comparison to nature.

Edit: Anyways, catch you all in a bit. I’ll try to get up on the moors too at some point, it’s a really unique environment.

E_S those pictures are ridiculously amazing!

I really need to take more pictures when I'm out doing stuff. Although, I think I got some decent shots on my phone when I was out hiking last week. Maybe I'll put them on the computer and see how they look.

If you continue to suffer Peripheral Bowie Syndrome (also known as The Blackstar) throughout the weekend, please set forth on your vision quest. When you meet the Motor-Heyoka, take the helmet and mount the vintage Harley-Davidson. Follow the ravens until you reach the Fiddler’s Green and make your choice.

Unrelated to the thread but I’ve had this image in my head for years about a comic called “Motor-Heyoka and the Thunder Queens”, which is a story about a thunderbird powered shaman and their queer biker gang, but it’s just not my story to tell.
