Which is actually kind of funny if you just ignore the existence of the first page since the script the angel is looking at is it, so you can get both the exposition and the in medias res opening the angel craves
Really.....so we are doing Wheel Saint as a meta commentary deconstruction of the concept. Fucking hell, why are writers so goddamned obsessed with this model of story-telling? Its not nearly as clever as they seem to think it is.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say they're telling the story that way because that's the kind of story the guys telling the story decided they wanted to tell.

Your point? Some of the most pretentious, nigh unreadable stories have been told exactly the way the creators wanted. Feel free to form your own opinions, but I was legit excited for the Wheel Saint concept when it debuted as one of three pitches some time ago. Seeing that the payoff on that concept will be in the form of a meta deconstruction diminishes my excitement significantly.

Putting aside issues of taste and whether you could even tell a story with as silly a premise without any hint of parody or meta....
My point is that you decided that you liked a story (that didn't exist yet) based on one panel, and have now decided that you don't like a story (that also doesn't exist yet) based on two panels. I don't see any indication that this entire strip is going to be meta deconstruction at all (I don't even think that's what's happening in this strip). But in the end it's kind of futile to lament the meta-less version of this story that never was, because clearly that's not what the creators have in their head and thus it is impossible for that version of the story to exist.
But here's me going meta and deconstructing things myself...In the end I guess my point was that I really don't think they are doing it to be clever; I think they are doing it because that's the story. It's a bit like telling someone wearing makeup or a nose ring that it's pointless for them to do so because it's not attractive...when there's a significant chance that attractiveness to other people was never the point. By all means, anyone can dislike a comic and I think it's fair game to say so on these forums. I guess what I was responding to was the "don't do this because you're not as clever as you think you are". Because I don't think that was the goal anyway.
The first "episode" definitely did not live up to the energy the pilot comic exploded with. We went from badass ass holy road warrior to an angsty kid being lectured by a father figure in a diner.
Still eagerly anticipating Friday's comic. We've all missed that speed boost at the start of the race, spun out, but still managed to win. Let's see how this unfolds.

I get it. He's writing a new gospel, and so far the script lacks zazz. We need to see some zazzy action.

It was in the set of three pitches they did about a month ago.

It's in medias res, not in media res. Tycho must be dying from shame right now.
