There's nothing here that couldn't be done better on a recent version of RPG Maker.
Okay, but they didn't choose RPG Maker. They chose the SEGA Genesis, and I applaud them for it.
Applaud them for making a subpar looking game for a dead console? I wasn't aware there was a reward for "wasted effort".
You know, people still make games for the Commodore 64 and the Dreamcast, right? Just because the industry at large decided to leave them behind doesn't mean they're "dead." The Genesis is one of my favorite systems, and I'm glad to see someone take up the challenge of making a game for it 10+ years after it got left behind. It doesn't look bad at all to me, either. Looks a lot like every other RPG that came out during that time.

My guess would be this forum is pissing all over it because it looks and sounds like ass.
I don't really care if they slaved their asses off to program something for the Genesis. A shitty looking game is a shitty looking game no matter how much effort was put into it.
Hahaha, oh man that looks like utter ass. The character art looks like something from a shitty rpg on an early windows 95 "100 games on a single disc" compilation.
Seems like the only redeeming factor is a bizarre choice of platform. If you're going to all this trouble at least do a decent job, like project exile.

I will have to see a demo to make a judgement. It looks alright for a genesis game. I do think the SNES was superior hardware but they might as well made a pc game out of it if they are going to go through all that hassle.

Clearly if they did that no one would care since there are infinitely better looking rpgs on the pc for people to play. Especially for free.
This way they can go OMG NEW GAME FOR THE GENESIS!! and try to get money.
My guess would be this forum is pissing all over it because it's not Super Nintendo.
Bingo.
It doesn't look "bad", it just looks like a typical 16-bit JRPG with less than stellar art design. And for the RPG comparison between the SNES and Genesis, the SNES pretty much had shit's worth of RPGs that didn't say "Squaresoft" somewhere on the label. The fact that people are still releasing games for the Genesis is a testament to the quality of the system.
You Nintendo elitist pricks are attacking it just because it's a Genesis game, as opposed to attacking it for just being a shitty looking game in general.
I applaud the creators for creating a game that will run on actual Genesis hardware. The SNES was a decent system, but no one gives a shit about it enough to start coding games for it now.
That said, Beggar Prince had a fairly steep ~$45 price tag, so I wonder what people are going to have to pay to get a cartridge. And the website is a crime against the internet as a whole.

Earthbound
Soul Blazer
Breath of Fire 1&2
Lufia 1&2
Y’s 3
Ogre Battle
Illusion of Gaia
and Terranigma
(along with Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean if you want to include Japanese imports)
Say hi.
I love the Genesis and everything, but to say that the SNES had little RPG wise outside of Square titles is insane.

To be fair, Breath of Fire 1 did have Squaresoft on the front, in the US.

Yeah that’s the cream of the crop rather than a complete list. But honestly, that’s more RPGs than what Square released in the U.S so... eh.
I honestly didn’t know Square had a hand in bringing BoF1 to the U.S.
"The SNES has shit for RPGs if you removed the tons and tons of good, quality RPGs".
I've never understood that argument. I personally thought some of Enix's games reached the levels of Squaresoft's, but even then it's not like there weren't a lot of good ones on there. This is a pointless argument, much like the SNES vs. Megadrive shit that's starting up now.

Huh? I’m just saying that there were a fair few really good non-Square RPGs, because a statement was made that said otherwise. I really enjoyed what I played of the SNES Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger, Super Paper Mario and Secret of Mana.
But I’m not going to derail the thread any further.
What I should have said was that the SNES didn't have shit's worth of good RPGs that didn't have Squaresoft slapped somewhere on the label. And a lot of them are just carbon copies of each other, dragons and swords and a kingdom to save. Chocobos and Mithril Armor.
On the Genesis you had some variation, with games like the Phantasy Star series taking you through futuristic cities and other planets, and Oasis being set in the far east.
The point is, people who automatically dismiss the game for being on a Genesis (or a dead system in general) are retarded. Don't like the way it looks? Don't buy it. And don't post a line of bullshit because you're too stupid to understand why anyone would want to create a game for a twenty year old system. The answer is "because they want to".
But you guys go back to posting "lol why would they do it on the Genesis when they could do it on the SNES??" if you want.
Off of the top of my head (in alphabetical order):
Beggar Prince
Crusader of Centy
Dragon Slayer
Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun
Fatal Labyrinth
Light Crusader
Might and Magic II
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III
Phantasy Star IV
Rings of Power
Shadowrun
Shining Force
Shining Force II
Shining in the Darkness
Sorcerer's Kingdom
Super Hydlide
Surging Aura
Sword of Vermilion
Traysia
Warsong (Langrisser)
Ys III
There's the first 22 I could think of. I'm sure I could come up with more if I bothered to take more time and wracked my brain a bit. If you don't count Beggar Prince that's three times as many RPGs as you told me were on the Genesis, and that's just off the top of my head.
I wonder how many non Square SNES RPGs I could list, without overlapping with the previously mentioned twelve games.
FE III, IV,V
DQ IV,V
Tactics Ogre
SMT, SMT II, I think
7th Saga
Paladins Quest
three different DBZ RPGs
5 or so Ultima games
6 or so Wizardry games
Eye of the Beholder port
YS III-V
Robotrek
Arcana
Metal Max 2
Lord of the Rings
Twisted Tales of Spike Mcfang
Might and Magic II,III

Yeah, I noticed.
Ok, so I was off a bit on Genesis RPGs. Also you can cut my list in half if you change the rules to Square Enix titles. Enix was huge on the SNES.

Well, that's pretty assumptive of you.
You fail at life.
How is it making an assumption to state that an ugly screenshot looks bad?
It's an assumption to call it a terrible game when one hasn't played the game before

Yet that list is bigger than the total number of RPGs the Genny had...
I'm sorry but no matter how you look at it the SNES destroys the Genesis in the RPG field. Quantity, quality, variety.
You're really trying to say that?
I mean, honestly, not a joke, you think that the Genesis had less than ten RPGs?
