What's an approximate number of people having new accounts each day? Any statistics?
I'm just curious. Say one new user created just created one "I'm new here!" thread. Would the threads bombard every board in the forum?

34 users joined on August 8th, and 33 on August 7th. That would be about 6ish "I'm new!" threads per board per day, assuming they only made one and spread them around. More likely, you'd see a dozen or so in SE, G&T, and EE each.

So yeah, those threads are bad.
There were none made in G&T.
It's rare that new people do the I'm new thing anymore.

I'm not saying there are 6 or 12 newbie threads a day, just that there would be if every new person made one. You're right... between the rules and people flaming those who miss them, it's not a real problem.

Time for some math!
Oh but Mr. Munkus, do we have to?
Yes, yes we do.
Looking at the memberlist at 3:27 in this A.M., there are 363 pages of members, each page holding 50 members. Now, if we count the number of people on page 363 and do some brief mulitplication, we come up with...by golly, 18133.
Now then, this forum has been in place for. . .oh what the hell, let's just say 2 years. That is 730 days! Let's explore some division:
18133/730 ~ 25
That's 25 "Hi, I'm new threads!" per day. And we haven't even been in business for two full years.
That's a whole lot of horn-swaggle for me to wade through on a daily basis.

Well, I wouldn't consider that overkill, but it's abundant in a way.

25 new threads a day dedicated to some mundane rediculous aspect that every damn person on this board has done- let me assure you of that- sure as hell isn't a waste of time. Oh no.
Look, good threads get pushed off of page one quicker the more crap threads there are. Yes, Hi I'm New! threads are crap threads. People in SE...helter...hell, any forum tend to ignore ANYTHING that is not on page one.

I'm aware of that. But it isn't overkill. Maybe the users could adapt to ignore the topics one day? I mean, sarcastic-as-hell flaming can't be interesting to do forever.

I have a better idea. Let's make it a rule that people can't make those type of threads and nip the problem in the bud!
Ohwait....

Yes. We can see new and exciting flames to new users every minute instead of just every random day. Very interesting.
Sure, we might learn something about them, but over half the people won't bother, because this isn't some giant support group. When you join, you don't have to tell us about yourself. You can if you want to, but you'll be subject to whatever anyone wants to dish out at ya. I'd just advise them to learn how things work a little bit and post accordingly, or just not try to stick out so soon.
If you have something to tell us, you'll get your chance to over the time that you're here. Or you'll jump right in and get flung right back out.

You know what else is ineresting? What happens when you pour searing hot liquid steel down your throat. I mean seriously, it would cool to watch as you writhe and scream and overall wish that the brief seconds you had left would just end.
But how fun would it be to experience it?
