Cameron Diaz is one of the ugliest creatures on the planet.

Every time she smiles, her face like...I don't know, breaks in half, or something. It grosses the hell out of me.

Man, the movie is so fucking terrible.

The biggest disappointment in anime, aside from Evangelion of course.

I didn't think the movie was that bad.

Definitely not as good as a lot of the series, but not that bad.

If anyone is curious about Cowboy Bebop they should watch the episode Ballad of Fallen Angels.

It was the first thing I saw and it really hooked me.

The animation quality of most animé I've seen is the one thing that puts me of it as a genre in general. I realise how small minded that is. Sweeping generalisations, what what.

Hey there we are in the same boat

The show's pretty poorly animated outside the occasional fight scene, and only something like 10 of the 26 episodes actually develop the characters and move the plot along

i mean if the series was just those 10 episodes, it'd be dandy

but since it has 16 episodes of bullshit, kinda brings the whole thing down

I don't mind the filler so much and I can excuse poor animation if the story is decently told, but I don't see what sets Cowboy Bebop apart from other anime (according to fans) or what is particularly special about it. Seems a pretty typical series to me and I don't hate it but I'm not going to go out and buy it.

It's hard to exactly quantify just what exactly I found so enjoyable in Cowboy Bebop. I just found it really enjoyable. I enjoyed the humour found within, and something about a crew of acquaintances wandering the stars is really appealing to me.

    Really? Really?

The episodes non-pertinent to the character arcs were those I found most enjoyable.

The thing that sets Cowboy Bebop apart from most anime out there is that it is a lot more Western in terms of the way it tells its story and the way the characters act. It doesn't feature abstract animation to convey emotion, and the violence is a lot more realistic and grounded than most anime.

Another thing that sets it apart is the use of music. The musical style varies from episode to episode, as opposed to most anime which uses the same music in every episode. The style of music is used to mirror the events of the episode, especially with episodes like Jupiter Jazz and the Real Folk Blues.

I mean, tfs, the 16 non story arced episodes are either introducing new characters or have self contained plots of their own. That's like saying the X-Files monster of the week episodes were the worst, totally untrue. They don't have to be part of the greater story arc to be good.

Also if you can't see why Cowboy Bebop is at least not typical anime you can't be trying very hard.

I just remember as Spike being your fairly typical brooding hero, Ed/Ein being your fairly typical comic relief, and although I can appreciate the music I actually prefer most of Yoko Kanno's other work.

Well, it's basically just Lupin in space as far as the characters.

Although I disagree about the other music being better.

Anime is cartoons, they're the same thing. And it depends entirely on what the demographic is -- kid's shows have terrible animation because the audience doesn't notice, but series aimed at adults have correspondingly higher quality.

Spike really wasn't that brooding, especially compared to the conventional anime archetype. Ed/Ein, I will partially agree with. It's still an anime tho, you're not going to totally escape every convention. Even with that as the case I still feel Ed/Ein was well done.

I dunno what preferring Yoko Kanno's other work has to do with Bebop being a typical anime, but ok.

    That's cool.

I dare you to find any anime with a sequence where a character falls through a broken stained-glass window in slow motion while having flashbacks to their life with the woman who betrayed them and then something just explodes.

Cowboy Bebop: The movie, what is up with the tone and feel of it compared to the series?

It feels like an exact opposite of the series, was it done by an entirely different production company or something?
