Some yankee doodle is talking about some time spent in the sunny Pacific in a foreboding manner.

Call of Duty: World at War will utilise the Call of Duty 4 engine but the developer has also added various enhancments, such as the ability the burn down buildings and foliage. The game takes place primarily in the pacific, with the US forces fighting Imperial Japan. Frank Kearsy, military advisor and Gulf War Veteran, has made sure that the way the Japanse fight is both tenacious and shocking.
You’ll also be fighting as the Russians, who are invading Germany. With the Nazi forces on the back foot they will start fighting even more ferociously in an attempt to defend their strongholds such as in Berlin. There is also a new party system that will allow the leader to issue commands to his troops in single player.
Mutliplayer perks are also back, including some of the favorites from Call of Duty 4, but there will also be new ones that better suit the time period. The game also features new weapons for the series, such as the flamethrower, which according to OXM, can melt the skin off of your enemies and set ablaze grass and wooden buildings. You are also able to shoot throw materials depending on the strength of the material.
Treyarch is promising that this new installment of Call of Duty will be the darkest one yet and are dedicated to making the best game they can. They have had two years of development time, rather than the 11 months they had for Call of Duty 3. And this time they have specific teams working on all the different versions, with the Xbox 360 version acting as the lead.
People seem to think there are actual aliens in this game, thanks to a quote from the magazine. The quote is actually talking about the Imperial Japanese forces. “Seemingly alien forces†referring to the fact that the Japanese military fought with completely different tactics and rules to any other force at the time. No actual aliens in he game.
Treyarch is developing Call of Duty: World at War. They are using a slightly enhanced version of engine developed by Infinity Ward for COD4. They have to live up to a fair amount after the release of COD4. I'm happy they aren't calling this one COD5 though, it's a "just in the event we screw up" measure I'm sure.
We don't know much about this game, we know that the Pacific is at least one of the theaters covered in CODWW (yeah I'm coining that). Here are some quotes because I'm lazy.
Treyarch aims to "explore the darkest corners of WWII," giving the military shooter more of a survival horror flavor by "tackling darker themes" and pitting players against a "new, seemingly alien fighting force."
To help simulate the Japanese's different style of warfare, Treyarch has completely re-tinkered the enemy AI in World at War. Instead of taking cover and flanking in traditional European battle strategies, the Japanese hide in trees, sneak through the overgrowth and scrabble, katana in hand in violent suicide attacks.
"We figured out early that the Imperial Japanese fought in a different way that was full of suspense," creative lead Rich Farrelly tells OXM. "From that point we started to skew the game in that direction."
Speculate away.

I'm pissed now.

This was bound to happen, I've been low on my forum fuck-up quota.

What's so impressive about the engine? It's basically the same as COD2 with slightly better textures. It felt kind of aged when I played it the first time (admittedly right after finishing crysis). If anything, COD4 was good despite the engine, not because of it.
It's the best console FPS I've played. Putting zombies in it would make it better.
...I guess that's about it

Yeah, like I said, it's a good game, but how much of that is the engine and how much is the fact that it was IW? In other words, will that engine still be good in the hands of treyarch? I mean, the textures in the screenshots in the OP really aren't that great, even compared to the inconsistent textures in CoD4.
"Activision has no problem whoring out their franchises. See Guitar Hero for proof.
Treyarch is making Call of Duty 5.
IW is making Call of Duty: USA vs. Zombies.
Awesome."
Now that I've watched it my opinion of the game has not changed at all.
Though that bayonet flip thing was kind of cool.
Setting dudes on fire looks pretty cool, though.
Click Right Stick to fend off the zombie!
Captain MacMillian punching helicopters full of zombies
Oh my god it would be amazing.
Is he the one with the awesome 'stache?
I only did campaign once.
The one that punched the helicopter that landed on him.
Don't really remember that.
Infinity Ward really needs to get on this right quick

Doesn't everybody?
wtb expansion -- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Left 4 Dead
I never asked for this!
Wait they are doing that? I thought it was just a game about the US campaign in the Pacific.
Wasn't there a really good shooter on the PC that was entirely from the Russian perspective?
Try reading the OP
And yes it's called Red Orchestra.
This.
I feel tricked.
Seconded, or how ever many times this has been quoted already.
How awesome would that be?
Technically, if the fun never starts, it really would be endless.
Has your lapboard arrived yet?
And now I'm sad, for it is not to be.
And if any of you haven't read (or listened to the audiobook, it's choke full of awesome) World War Z by Max Brooks (son of Mel), stop whatever it is you're currently doing and get to it right fucking now.
Oh that would be awesome!
Also its going to be a movie. So that is something to look forward to.
J. Michael Straczynski is writing the script, that can only lead to awesome, awesome, things.
Yeah seriously what the fuck.
