Firstly whatever version of Doom 1 Ep 1 Level 1 that is, it's awesome.

Secondly, sometimes I read things and feel a little dizzy by how incredible they are.

Basically, Arvix has a paper up on the quantities of potentially life-bearing rock ejected into space by the asteroid which killed the dinosaurs. Bacteria to be sure, but earth bacteria - of the type we brought back from the moon because someone coughed on a lander, and which was found to come back to life once you have them heat, water and food.

A bunch of it should have rained down on moons in the Jupiter system. But the thing which makes me dizzy is the notion that some of it would have made it into interstellar space. Which is 1, holy shit amazing, and 2, because by now it could have made it to Gliese 581 - a super-Earth in the habitable zone, 20 light years away. And, that assuming a few things about transfer rates, that if life appeared anywhere in the galaxy about 10^10 years ago, then it would have spread through the entire galaxy - including being able to reach Earth by 4.6 billion years ago.

    Arvix link.

Tell me that doesn't fill you with cosmic awe.

Just as awesome as the projects getting funded on Kickstarter are the projects that are failing to get funded. Projects like reviving the Leisure Suit Larry game series.

It seems to me like music being dominant is more of a Japanese thing, but i might be wrong. Seems like the last few western games had more atmospheric soundtracks whereas the last few eastern games had a soundtrack that stood out more.
    Pretty much yes.

The only game I've played recently where the music was really good was... oh, what a surprise, Skyrim main theme by... yup, Jeremy Soule! I was really disappointed RAGE didn't have an awesome soundtrack to go with it; I was hoping they'd go the Painkiller route of awesome metal to play to, but then I guess they'd have to worry about stupid market demographics. :<

21st, do you have something to tell us?

About what? i am puzzled here. i linked a song from a video game i'm playing these days, composed by Kow Otani.

I think the way it works is that money only changes hands after the product is released?

So like, maybe the start up company can borrow against the money they have raised in the kickstarter but, until they release the product, they don't actually get the money from kickstarter.

    Does that make sense?

Also OLEDs tend to get washed out in direct sunlight, which would be problematic in this application.

I think I'm going to pass on this one, but v2 should be pretty sweet.

This would also allow kickstarter to make money off accrued interest of their holdings, so that would make sense I think.

there's no legal obligation to deliver, though. afaik

like, i get kickstarter funds, blow through all my cash on "development" or whatever. It's all in the name of bringing my project together, but it goes towards my "office" and ramen noodles and whatnot

as long as i can prove that that cash went towards my project in some fashion, i skirt fraud charges

imgur has been shitting the bed for the past 2 or 3 weeks. It will come back and go away and come back and go away, but even though it would take barely anymore effort to fix than typing out this reply, I can't be arsed to do it.

Nope, once they exceed their goal and the time ends, everybody pays up.

It's inevitable that there will be a major shitstorm at some point when a major project doesn't deliver (it's happened for a least one small project that I'm familiar with).
