Very, very loosely adapted from the sweet movie of the same name, Teen Wolf is about teenager Scott who gets bit by a werewolf and then has to both be in highschool and solve werewolf mysteries. At the same time!
This is Scott. He is newly a teenwolf. He likes lacrosse and pretty girls but has never been very good at either. He works at a vet's office and his mom is a single nurse.
More importantly, this is his best friend, Stiles. Stiles likes all the same things that Scott likes, but isn't incredibly dumb. Also he can use Google! That makes him the brains of this operation. And his dad is the sherriff or something.
This is a pretty girl. She is named Allison Argent. Why does she get a last name, you ask? Because her last name means silver. So she comes from an ancient French family of werewolf hunters, and thus has to be Scott's love interest.
This is Derek. He is also a teenwolf, despite not really being a teen anymore. He might be an ally for Scott. Or maybe not!
This is Lydia. She is hot AND popular. Also secretly smart and talented at everything but she doesn't tell people because she is hot and popular.
And last but most certainly not least, we have Jackson. Jackson is good at sports (and boning Lydia). In fact, until Scott became a teenwolf, Jackson was the best at sports. He might be a bit angry, but he's still the best at boning Lydia. Also secretly smart.
The first season of this is on Netflix and came out of nowhere as a secretly great show. The second season just started and MTV, like good upstanding folks, puts the episodes on their website after they air.
So let's talk about how we don't really understand lacrosse or high school or why this show accidentally turned out good or how great it is that the creators are sworn against including vampires.

Amusing characters with decenr dialogue, a well researched mythology, and an actually surprising villain for the first season.
Like I will admit I started watching it because I wanted absolute trash, and it is nowhere near perfect, but it is far better than expected.
Have you seen this? Because you are very wrong.
Every show aimed at teens (particularly when the supernatural is involved) will devolve into angsty relationships. It's like a cosmic law. The question is, when it does, will the characters have been developed well enough to keep it from becoming trash?

I am convinced, more now than ever, that screenwriters are grown in tubes until their 20s, and have never actually seen a highschool or highschool party.

Not yet. However, the main villain of the first season:
Everyone dies except the Winchesters you mean.
