Lorrir can't take PtL. No EPT slot, which is why he's so under-used.
He's a very strong Firespray counter, and he'll get better with Autothrusters in the game - so I hope to see more of his antics in the near future.

Upgrades.
Apparently someone somewhere broke street date. So presumably S&V will drop soon.
I must say that it's a bit concerning that they've packaged a swarm-oriented upgrade as a one-of with a $24 ship.
Hey Guys,
I just recently got into the game and i'm really liking it so far. One thing that i've run into is a problem i used to have when i played magic, I just can't seem to get a good squad idea going. I ran a Dash Outrider HLC with two y-wing ion supports tuesday night and i went 1 and 1. I liked that squad, but i think i'm going to shelf it until the next wave release where y-wings get some love.
Anyway, i've been messing around on the squad builder but i haven't made anything else that i love yet. Is there a good resource for Tournament placing and squad lists? I want to see what is popular to account for that as i play.
I'm still trying to learn things like, what is a good counter to a swarm, two big ships, etc.

A lot of this is obviously dependent upon player experience and skill, but that's more or less the current scene, with the strong possibility of things being shaken up in a couple of weeks when Wave 6 hits.
In the meantime, I'd say to run what you have fun with. My experience has always been that it'll take about 20 games under your belt for just about any tabletop miniature game to feel like you "understand" it and can reliably perform well in most situations.
I usually tell newer players to initially hold off on using a lot of ships with turrets, as you don't learn some of the hard lessons about movement, facing, and firing arcs that are really helpful when you're first getting started.
Thanks Guys.
So i ran a rebel stress squad on sunday at a local store for some free play. (build here http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/186634/stressed-out) First off it was a fun squad to fly, 2nd i went 2 for 3 and honestly should have gone 3 for 3.
I lost to a jax, soontir, whisper squad because soontir was evading like a champ. In turn 4 i had jax dead and soontir at 1 hull. Soontir then proceeded to not get hit for 3 rounds (evading fire from 2-3 ships every round), while whisper did unspeakable things to my squad.
The biggest highlight for me was my ability to anticipate movements. I had a match against a Han/etahn squad where i lined up my b wings so that the falcon moved where all 3 were range 1 on the sides and back. The falcon just fit into the space i had open with a hair of room, then he got blasted.

Makeup games: Grunt's Ghosts v TehSloth Sokpuppet v Grunt's Ghosts webguy20 v Grunt's Ghosts TehSloth v webguy20
Once those are done (or at least a few are done), if there's interest, I'll get a seeded bracket up and we can have a tournament to declare a new Galactic Emperor.
I am on the fence about the Raider and other large ships. It's due to the fact I play X wing on a card table and I feel those ships would take up too much table.
But I am not sold on the Scum set. Playing the classic Rebels VS Empire seems right to me.
But with the Table size how big are the ships in Armada? about the same size? I know the fighters are tiny but the Large ships would be about the same size as the transport?

The Rebel Transport? They're much smaller than that.

I know that the games are meant to be played on a 6' x 3' mat, if that helps.
I've updated the League standings with the info I've gotten so far:
Stationary - 30 (6-1)
Elvenshae - 25 (5-2)
crimsoncoyote - 20 (4-3)
Ingram - 15 (3-3)
Sokpuppet - 15 (3-3)
webguy20 - 10 (2-2)
TehSloth - 0 (0-4)
Grunt's Ghosts - 0 (0-5)
In the interest of continuing, I'm going to cut this off after Saturday (you can still play, it just won't count for points). Then, I will get a bracket up using these points as seeds.
If anyone NOT currently in the league wishes to participate in the championship bracket, let me know by Tuesday with an @ or a PM.

I Will not be able to make up my games by then. I've gotten swamped with OT at work and can't find the time for gaming right now.
Is there any recourse for the folks who needed to play me to get some matches in?
Sokpuppet and I got our game in last night and he won. I'm not able to do a full write up, atm, but it came down to Lorrir vs. Dash with both only having 1 hull.
There was one turn where I should have done a barrel roll and didn't and of course that's where Dashed moved. I made a few mistakes but that's the one that really cost me the game. Once Dash got to range 3 of me, it was all ogre.
Cut the ship trays up and they fit perfectly in this new case. One section is a thinner tray that's perfect for tokens and stuff. Only downside is I can't fit the range ruler in it. Also I can buy more trays and snap them together to form a Towering Pillar of X-Wing Ships.
for once I kind of wish we had some idea what the next small releases would look like
I love y-wing upgrades but the scum stuff doesn't seem to gel with the rebel ys amazingly or anything, and I don't really want to start a scum fleet, especially since I practically just started buying my own ships (instead of mooching from the friends that got me into this, haha)
I am crossing my fingers really hard for some kind of 'aces' equivalent for the older ships. C'mon, rebel veterans.
... I already added 2 M3-a ships to my preorder.... I am about to pull the trigger and add a Starviper JUST FOR THE UPGRADE CARDS. But I draw the lien there.. I DO NOT NEED an IG-2000.

Quoting myself because I had an idea. Before the next season starts, we should get together on Vassal somehow and do this mission, just for kicks. It might be an all day affair (I know my games take 2-4 hours lately) but it would be cool to get a whole group together. Maybe talk through Skype or Vent?
Ended up going 1-3, which considering it's my first time in the "meta" and not dicking around with my brother/friends who are new to this as I am, I'll take. Especially considering the biggest part of my losses came down to my crappy flying. That zany squad, with all its unorthodox pilots, actually works beautifully when I execute properly. A few folks watching over my shoulder even gave props to my ability to turn Eaden Vrill into a five dice throwing 360 turret machine of death. Wish I'd done better, obviously, but still proud of myself for hanging with some of the clearly more experienced/talented players there. Most importantly, I learned a lot and had oodles of fun. Also important: despite the record, I'm confident with better gameplay experience and skill on my part, my zany team can be a legitimate contender. I did get embarrassed once, when I faced off against a swarm for the first time in my life against a player I'd already been warned was really, really good. It... it went poorly. Other losses I feel I could've won had I done a better job flying my squad. Swarms... I guess if I could get the jump Porkins and Vrill should be able to do some damage and take a few guns out of the sky. Still, it's the one thing I'm still pretty nervous about.
I soooo want to go shopping so I can have the ships/cards to fly that. Imp Fett+Navigator+VI+Engine Upgrade sounds like a wonderful Whisper hunting build. The other two being capable of their own zany, arc-avoiding abilities just makes it sound all the more fun.
Steal and bank focus tokens. Use Opportunist to bump Blaster Cannon to 4 red dice. Next round, execute green maneuver to clear stress from Opportunist and acquire a target lock. Might be more helpful to have Recon Spec to bank focus tokens early, ala Kyle Katarn.
Pair him with Torkhil + Ion Cannon to be even more of a dick (bump them to PS0, shoot at them with an ion cannon while they have little to no defense dice) and the Mando to deal damage

Oh, and the store where the tournament was held?
Said he was overstocked on Outriders and Decimators.
So he sold them to us at 50% off. Got me a Decimator for twenty bucks. Can't say it was really high on my "must buy" list for X-Wing, but fuck, twenty bucks? Ain't passing that up.

So, I've decided to jump in with this scum release because I fucking love Star Vipers and bounty hunters and stuff.
Tell me, X-Wing thread, what should I look at picking up to make my Star Vipers (and other scummy ships) awesome?

Do you have anything already? Or are you starting from scratch?
If you're starting from scratch, a core set and a second set of dice would probably be the best place to start, even if you want to go S&V as opposed to the Imperials or Rebels. The core set for the rules, templates and first 6 dice. The extra dice so you can roll out combos like Comradebot's 5 dice Eadan without having to reroll.
After that I'd get the Most Wanted set, between that and the core set you have a solid selection of upgrade cards as well as the Z-95s and Y-wing, it also has the pilot cards/dials for the HWK-290 and Firespray ships so you can proxy those in all their S&V glory before you buy them.
After those, pick up the Star Vipers or Scyks or whatever else you want.

Something along the lines of several Black Squadron pilots with Calc + Howlrunner.
To run it, though, you would need to buy ~5 Starvipers.
Which is... uh... a lot.
I also think crit oriented pilots could get some use out of it, like Kath, Chiraneau, or Maarek.
Should I bring my plano(s) with me?
I ran into multiple people who ran tie swarms where every Black Squadron pilot had vet instincts, back in wave 3
I fully expect to see swarms with mass Calculation if it catches on, there are some folks with money to burn out there
I have to imagine a lot of imperial players will already be buying multiple copies for Autothrusters anyhow

haven't used it much myself but this site compiles a lot of tournament results, so it should give you a good idea?
be forewarned, a lot of the popular lists right now are kind of tragically boring
The current scene is something like:
Swarms counter Fat 2-3 turreted ship builds
Turreted ships counter Phantoms
Phantoms counter swarms
A lot of this is obviously dependent upon player experience and skill, but that's more or less the current scene, with the strong possibility of things being shaken up in a couple of weeks when Wave 6 hits.
