I logged into the reward site. Anything else I can do for some freebies (other than login daily to check on the drivatar)?

What is this I don't even.

I lack the context necessary to grok this. You mean buying a DLC pack is better now because it just gives you the car, rather than unlocking the car as something you can buy with Forza bucks?

Yeah. Last patch changed it to be that way.

Otherwise most freebies (basically just the Road America expansion) should be included in the patches, though I don't remember if you need to download that Honda Legends free pack separately or if it was rolled into a patch.

Rolled in. I don't think you have to manually download any of the free DLC so far.

As an aside, realized this morning that as I finished 3 points behind Acid, it means I literally lost the series in the last corner of the last lap of the last track, dropping two positions for 4 points. I think that's amazing and awesome. I kind of wish I had sandbagged into that, but nope, totally unintentional. Ha ...

This is probably an incredibly simple question, but I've figured out a good bit of other stuff without answering it. What is the appropriate way to accelerate at the very beginning of the race? Your driver starts out red-lining the engine before you're given control.

For the vast majority of cars, holding the trigger down is about as good a launch as you can hope for. The revamped tire physics mean that most cars in the low-mid spectrum don't sit there spinning. Once you get up to some genuine beasts, like things you see in S-class and up, you'll find cars where you need to employ some finesse to avoid torque steer or wheel spin, but each of those deserves a special solution. In general, AWD won't have this problem, but FWD and RWD are certainly prone to it.

The game gets stuck around 30% install, and I get a popup notification saying that Installation Stopped. I can start the installation in the morning, then come home after work and it'll still be stuck near 30%. Then I get a message saying to check my disc because it's dirty or damaged, even though it's spotless.

I've tried offline installs, and online ones, and same problem every time. Super frustrating.

floor it, hope for the best. works for basically everything before R except my caterham, but that thing's mental anyway.

I'm going to give away my launch secret... I give 75% throttle. Basically enough gas that I'm redlining but not actually bouncing the revlimiter. Then as the green flag drops you want to feed in throttle to keep the tires lightly spinning but not full on burnout. This gets a better launch than bogging the engine (too little gas) and out and out flooring it. Definitely lower class cars can be floored from the get-go.

The other trick is upgrading the gearbox and dropping overall gear ratio. Its the best upgrade you can do on anything that starts below b. There isn't a single mod that you can do that PI for PI can improve your acceleration as much as a race transmission. There I said it

Mine was supposed to say P because I forgot how the classes worked. 787 is the first car minus the Caterham I won't start by just flooring it. R18 will work fine though. Also I refuse to agree with you on principle!

I have been playing my xbox 360 a lot lately (since there are no flight combat games on the one) and yeah... I would've rather seen them add features to that OS rather than tear to the ground and drip feed features back in.

I'm suddenly ok with not having sunset raceway... The lack of runoff areas should be very interesting for SBC...

I just... there are like, 4 different types of bumps in that video alone that will kill 90% of cars we drive if we touch them. Those Le Mans-style Twinkies on steroids are terrifying.

Looks like the update will be out around 1pm EST today. I also missed this in the excitement:
Need some new rides to go with that new track? The Long Beach Booster Pack features five amazing cars to add to your collection, including the 1977 Ford Coyote Gilmore77, the 1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, the 1956 Jaguar D-Type, the 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG Mercedes CLK GTR, and the 1971 Ferrari #2 Ferrari Automobili 312 P. This five-car pack will be available at no additional charge to Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass owners. The Forza Motorsport Car Pass includes the six monthly DLC packs that Car Pass owners will receive through May 2014 as well as the five-car Road America Booster Packs and the five-car Long Beach Booster Pack.

I'll be checking this out in a few days since I don't want to fight with the cord monster again for awhile.

I hate drivatars so much, because fuck everyone is an asshole.

My wife's drivatar will straight up just ram me off the road before taking a turn.

I still maintain the theory that drivatards have a negative feedback loop where it doesn't consider what other cars around it are doing when it's learning, so like, all those times where you rear-end a car because it slammed on the brakes for seemingly no reason it's because when that drivatard learned to brake because another drivatard had learned to brake for yet another drivatard, infinitely forever.

Oh, I completely agree. From what I can tell the drivatar just counts how many "collisions" you have in a race to determine how much of a dick your drivatar is. Then it's turtle-crashes all the way down.

So now that people are returning/recovering from PAX, figure it's time to start figure out what we're doing next for organized sort of SBC deal. Right now, the options I think we have are:

    1 - Miata (Spec?) Mini-Series
    2 - Miata + other similar track-day-bro-y cars (I'd need a list), mini-or-full series
    3 - B Class SBC (I'd figure out a list)
4 - Mysterious and Unknown Other

    Opinions/thoughts/angry-mobs?

B Class as well, although if we did a two or three week Miata thing before that I wouldn't mind.

I might be going out to dinner after work, so if I don't show up tonight I'll be on Thursday.

yeah I think something a step up in speed from the last SBC might be worthwhile. Just for a literal change in pace.

I also thought of an awful idea that you chucklefucks might actually enjoy. We turn off all damage and have a gloves off, anything goes Senna special. Gentle escortation allowed and encouraged, pitting not required but pit (maneuvers) required.

I think we should do a Group B rally racing. Roughly 550hp, AWD (or AWD swap). Street tires. Aero required. Race transmission required with Top speed limited to 150mph (can we still take away traction via the options? )

But I think we should leave it open to interpretation as to what car you bring in. A number of the group B cars are DLC. So if you want an AWD converted camaro (camarrrrohhh!) or an awd converted mini cooper, its up to you. Without building a few, I can't say what the PI would have to be, probably like 600 or 650.

    KrautasticKrautastic Registered User regular
also darkewolfe, maybe you should stick to rivals modes haha. And yes, I think the racing has an infinite negative feedback loop. I'd rather race in the public lobbies than race against the drivatars (that says something right there!)
