They already have to pay more because they have to get a hotel and flight. Now you want them to pay more for tickets? This is silly, Penny Arcade will never fall for it.

I wonder if they'd ever consider some type of regional pricing structure, so that PAX ticket prices varied based on where you were buying them from, so that, for example, someone buying PAX tickets from Texas (where PAX South will be) would have to pay more than someone buying them from Seattle.

Another possible way to tweak the selling process would be to reserve set amounts of tickets for various regions, so they could guarantee, for example, that x% of all tickets were sold to people in the state of Washington.

There goes your chances at 4 day passes. Everyone else better stop going to work/school so they can get their tickets, I have a feeling this year will sell out in less than 3 hours.

Well looks like ClubPA will be much more popular soon for the possibility of them doing this again. Saves troubles and you're getting the $30 cheaper ticket option here so it would be money well spent. Or they claim to stop it since this became public so no one joins and they try again

At this point, all bets are off, because who knows how many 4-day passes there will be compared to the total number, and who knows how many ClubPA members there are.

Also, the link in the email now goes to a 404 page instead of the "special item" that they were selling just a bit ago.

I really hope that ClubPA is fake, because otherwise "silly goose" Penny Arcade. IF (I said IF) this is true, these hypocritical "silly geese" have shown themselves to be lying, hypocrites in regards to PAX being for everyone, and everyone is equal and blah blah blah.

    SPREAD THIS EVERYWHERE!

If this is true, let it blow up on them - PAXWolves style.

And yet, we don't know how many 4 day passes they actually sell. Last year the 4 day passes sold out in 10 minutes or so. This will reduce the small amount of 4 day passes that are available. The 3 hour feeling is just because of the increased demand year after year. Not really because of the Club PA members.

Edit: Though I must say, if you want to increase your chances at a pass, pay $30 for Club PA for next year.

FWIW, one response on the Reddit thread:
"Indeed, my coworker received this email. I'm sure they knew it would leak. Not sure why they wouldn't just alert members after tickets went on sale/soldout and then offered to spot any members a ticket (or extra 1) afterwards since they have to buy them anyway. I would have zero overall issues with it if it was an announced benefit, and not some closed doors cloak and dagger bullshit. I'm far, far more annoyed at the "shhhh don't tell anyone or we will deny it" (as if that ever works in the digital age anymore) angle they took than if they just did a one time pre-sale as a re-introductory bonus to Club PA being a thing.

But they save $30 by getting the cheaper 4-day pass (and shipping if they are American and can't do pick-up). So even if it was totally cool to let them buy the tickets so much more easily than everyone, they also essentially got their money back

It was up until about 15 minutes after TOG tossed up his tweet. Could have just been timing, but I'm guessing they pulled it so somebody didn't money bag their way in by buying a ticket for nine grand.

The thing is though, Club PA members were willing to give PA money in exchange for not much in return. You really have to like PA to do that, as the advertised benefits do not outweigh the costs(IMO). I think PA knows this, and as a thank you to the people willing to part with their money they gave them this surprise. This was a gift to people who support PA, and I don't have a problem with that at all.

It was pretty much a kickstarter though. The perks usually aren't up to the cost, but you do it to help the company out. What makes you think that benefits have to be so great? It is like Mvrck said, it is the hidden approach that is what really stinks about this

While the chances of me managing to completely head a shitstorm off at the pass are slim, I should say some stuff:

    1. This was never an advertised perk of Club PA. Therefore, it can't have been a way for us to make extra money because we didn't make any extra money from it. We sold some tickets that we would have sold anyway, and we didn't see any extra Club PA support because nobody knew this was going to happen.
    2. We don't want to attract the wrong kind of person to Club PA, so this likely won't happen again. I'm not the person in charge of those kinds of decisions, but that's my understanding. If you were going to join Club PA for this, I'd advise against it. Join because you like PA and want to help us out, for sure. That's what it's for. It's not an early access pass to PAX.

In the end, this was just a nice thing to do for some of our more loyal fans. It wasn't a money spinner, and it didn't have a tremendous impact on anyone's ability to get a ticket. Club PA does not run into the tens of thousands. I'm sure that some people will see this as a terrible, negative thing. That's their prerogative, they can do so. The facts of the matter though, are that this had no negative effect on anyone whatsoever.

Also a reminder that this forum has pretty strict rules and people on all sides are expected to be civil to each other or will be kicked out.

Basically, if they would have just held 500 or so 4 day badges in reserve, and offered them to ClubPA people after tickets went on sale to either replace their other tickets, or as a chance to purchase one if they had not yet got tickets, then whatever. It looks like that would have still covered 10x how many people showed up at East, done the awesome discount, better chance at going, and not stirred up some huge hornets nest of PR flak.

The hidden approach, as the email stated, was to keep the shitstorm to a minimum.

As to the benefits thing, they don't have to be all great, but as you said, the people who are members paid the price of membership to help the company out, and in return, the company gave them this awesome reward.

I always applauded PA for not playing favorites. Not giving early access to veterans stuff like that. I'm really disappointed in being told that I'm not as big a fan as people willing to pay for online comics and such. The attitude from the Expo, as I interpretted it, seemed to be a community gathering of gamers and nerds, not a PA fan gathering. I go for the games and the people. I don't read the comics and now even less likely to.

Pretty pissed but whatever. I'll be going all 4 days so PA gets my sour grapes and my money. You win.
