When a hornet scout locates a Japanese honey bee hive and approaches the nest, the scout will emit specific pheromonal hunting signals. When the honey bees detect these pheromones, a hundred or so will gather near the entrance of the nest and keep it open, apparently to draw the hornet further into the hive or allow it to enter on its own. As the hornet enters the nest, a large mob of about five hundred honey bees surround the hornet, completely covering it and preventing it from moving, and begin quickly vibrating their flight muscles. This has the effect of raising the temperature of the honey bee mass to 47 °C (117 °F). Though the honey bees can tolerate such a temperature, it is fatal to the intruder, which can handle a maximum temperature of about 45 °C (113 °F), and is effectively baked to death by the large mass of vibrating bees.

that's amazing.
I'd love to see a video of that... except looking at bees makes me sick.
I hath traveled to texas with three of my guildmates, braving a 12 hour drive from atlanta, and a 5 hour drive from chapel hill before that.
The guildies live there. I am currently in a 'stage yellow-orange' level of alert, but that may decrease depending on what happens in this bizarre, huge ass state.

Halo 3 is growing on me. I still suck, but I figured out how to mute the trash-talking from the other side. I played a few rounds with Glaeal. It was fun and now I know for sure he's an elf. At first I thought he was speaking Welsh but then realized it was Elvish.

i've met two of them before, they're college aged like me, and we've been communicating online for over a year now. They were driving from NY to texas and CH is more or less on the way, so I opted to join them.
they are pretty cool dudes.

he's a gnome.
edit - why would Company of Heroes be $40 on Amazon for the DVD version, but only 14.99 for the CD version? and isn't it a fairly recent game? seems very cheap to me.
I can only hope the new version of Dwarf Fortress is released after my exams finish. Otherwise I'll fail my degree and have to become a gentleman of the road giving freelance physics and/or handjobs for food.

Jesus. Those are some badass bees.
If you have the National Geographic channel they show it at least once a week. Thermal vision and everything.
Apis cerana, if anyone's looking for it.
I haven't watched it, but this is the one cited.
Oh man that is bad ass.
Normally you see the video of a handful of giant hornets decimating a honey bee hive. This is the first time I've heard of a honey bee defense.
i'm in texas
You're nerdy Variable but I didn't know you were that nerdy
"I'm gonna roll a carrier!"
Why Eddy why?!
I'm glad it's not another MMO. But I have a hard time believing that Blizzard won't have an associated subscription service to go along with it.
