The zombie thing has gone right through the revival and innovation phase and reached the "let's add zombies to X" phase of saturation. Vampires are also likewise feeling pretty played out and stale. Let The Right One In is the only recent vampire movie that actually managed to use the concept in an interesting way.
I think you have to let these things lie fallow for a while or they stop being interesting archetypes.
I am only on page 3 of this book and already I pretty much wish to worship it.

Really? Didn't they blow all their pop mojo in one moment of sublime genius? Since they're never going to top Groove Is In The Heart wouldn't anything further just be an anticlimax and a disappointment?

Coaling of Illing is okay. The others are bad. You will not be my band manager, sir.

I can't check right now because I'm on the subway, but it has something to do with interactivity in games.

sounds about right. So far I am amazingly impressed with him. The book's based on his PhD and apparently he's changed some of his terminology and refined his ideas in the past 10 years. The other book I got is by people in the same centre as him (Centre for Computer Games Research), which is Understanding Video Games and goes through history, theory and everything else in a suckiology-type way. Aarseth also found Game Studies, which is a crossdisciplinary journal dedicated to games research, web-published several times a year at www.gamestudies.org.
I may need to learn Norwegian, however.

Team Fortress 2 is an online First Person Shooter game where you can assume one of nine different classes, each with different abilities, and fight against the other team. Each class has their own developed personality through the "Meet the Team" videos. The nine classes are:
Scout - Fastest, lowest HP. Can double jump. Uses a sawn off shotgun, a pistol and a baseball bat as weapons.
Soldier - Slower than average, high HP. Uses rocket launcher to rocket jump.
Pyro - Medium HP, main weapon is flamethrower. Victims take initial damage and continue to burn until healed. Pyros are immune to continued burning.
Demoman - Average speed, medium-high HP. Uses grenade launcher to blow things up. Can also plant sticky bombs to set up a trap, and can sticky jump not unlike the rocket jump
Heavy - Slowest, Highest HP. Carries around a 150kg minigun and has to slow down even more to fire it.
Engineer - Average speed, medium HP. Builds constructs to teleport allies, dispense health/ammo and a powerful fixed sentry gun.
Medic - Slightly higher than average speed, medium HP which he regenerates. Can heal his allies, and when he's healed them enough, can "Ubercharge" them, making them invulnerable for a short time.
Sniper - Average Speed, Low HP. Uses a sniper rifle from afar to pick people off. Headshots (and criticals for everyone else) do triple damage.
Spy - Average Speed, Low HP. Can disguise himself as an enemy player. His main weapon is a knife which is a guaranteed kill with a backstab. Can also "sap" engineer constructs, so they stop working and eventually blow up, but an engineer can fix them if he's fast enough.
Game formats include:
CTF - Capture the flag, or in this case, Intelligence. You have to assault the enemy base, grab the briefcase and return it to your base.
Control Point - Two flavours: A symmetrical 5 control point arrangement where both sides start with 2 and have to capture the middle point before taking the enemy points, or attack/defend, where there are 2/3 points, the RED team has to stop the BLU team taking them.
Payload - BLU team escorts a huge bomb on a railway cart by standing next to it, RED team has to stop it reaching their base.
Arena - One control point, no respawning. Whoever captures the point first, or wipes out the enemy side, wins.
King of the Hill - Like Arena, but once one side captures it, a timer (usually set at 3 minues) starts to drop for them. If the other side retake the point, their timer starts and the other timer stops. First timer to reach 0 is the winner.
dang did you type all of that out just now? that was kind of you!

I like pictures for sad children a lot. I can imagine I wouldn't like most of it's fanbase, but the comic it's self is equal parts funny, melencholy, and utter defeat at the hands of existence. I don't ever feel like the author is whining at me. He's just sharing, and that's what makes it so good.

Isn't it weird how broken hope sounds strange. Clearly hope is not very brittle. Unlike dreams.

I'd only be wearing it in Paris, they don't tend to mind about fairly lowkey English swearing.
