The midterm recall election that ousted Grey Davis was a fucking circus. There are so many layers of crazy to it.

God, moving 21000 small files takes a ridiculous amount of time. Were this a single ISO image or something, it would take maybe 8 minutes at 100mbps. But because it's a ton of tiny files, it's going slow as hell.

    ...

I'm thinking it would be quicker to tar them locally or something.
    Most definitely.

The problem is Teracopy seems like it should be able to handle this reasonably well, so I don't quite understand what's going on - its intelligently reading a whole bunch at a time, but it still tanks to 603kb/s.

I wonder if this is a problem with GlusterFS on my server.

    What network protocol?

    Samba.

    That's your problem.

Can you transfer via FTP instead?

I guess I could set that up. I've got the HPN-SSH patches though, so I could run that with the None cipher.

EDIT: Is this really something Samba sucks at? Actually, secondary question: everyone seems to hate Samba, so why is it so ubiquitous?

WASHINGTON — The US Army has withdrawn an invitation to an evangelist to take part in a Pentagon prayer service, amid concern over his remarks condemning the Islamic faith.
The Reverend Franklin Graham, son of the famous US preacher Billy Graham, had described Islam as "evil" and a "very violent religion."
Graham had been asked to speak at Pentagon prayer day on May 6, an event attended by top officials, sometimes including the US defense secretary.
"Through the office of the Pentagon chaplain, the invitation to Rev. Graham was withdrawn today at the Army's request," the Defense Department said in a statement issued late Thursday.
"While Rev. Graham will not be taking part in the National Day of Prayer event at the Pentagon, the event will continue as scheduled under the administration of the office of the Pentagon Chaplain," it said.
Graham spoke at a previous prayer service in 2003 but US military leaders took a second look this time after religious freedom and Muslim-American groups raised objections.
US commanders have struggled to improve the military's image among Muslims abroad despite the fall-out from two wars in Islamic countries and scandals over abuse of prisoners and civilian casualties.
So it is a standard PR move to avoid looking like they support Graham's views about Islam. Well, not according Palin.

My, have things changed. I was honored to have Rev. Franklin Graham speak at my Governor’s Prayer Breakfasts. His good work in Alaska’s Native villages and his charitable efforts all over the world stem from his servant’s heart. In my years of knowing him, I’ve never found his tempered and biblically-based comments to be offensive – in fact his words have been encouraging and full of real hope.

It’s truly a sad day when such a fine patriotic man, whose son is serving on his fourth deployment in Afghanistan to protect our freedom of speech and religion, is dis-invited from speaking at the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer service. His comments in 2001 were aimed at those who are so radical that they would kill innocent people and subjugate women in the name of religion.

Are we really so hyper-politically correct that we can’t abide a Christian minister who expresses his views on matters of faith? What a shame. Yes, things have changed.
Fred Phelps think god hates fags as a matter of faith. Can the US government really not abide a Christian minister who expresses his views on matters of faith?
