metroid other m was the worst piece of shit ever, metacritic can eat a hot bowl of dicks. the story and characterization in that game was unbelievable and the gameplay was so linear it was painful.
I liked the upped difficulty even if it went a little too far in some places
corruption just felt a little off to me. I don't even remember how the Dark Samus plot ends. Having a big cast of supporting characters is already weird for metroid, but then none of them got fleshed out either. The whole Project Aurora thing felt like it was leading up to a 3D Mother Brain fight and it was kinda disappointing that it didn't pan out that way.

Yeah, it felt like they wanted to add new things but didn't want to alienate anyone, so a bunch of ideas feel kinda unfinished or underused
extra characters are around for all of an hour
project aurora doesn't really go anywhere
ship missile expansions were pretty useless I would've liked more beam upgrades but that's neither here nor there
it was still a fun game though, and some bits were really great looking for a wii game. Also I loved the wiimote controls a whole lot
I should really finish prime 3 before complaining too much though.

Plot awfulness:
Samus refuses to turn on her VARIA SUIT, in a LAVA CAVE until Adam (who is a Udina level dick) says it's okay.
She freezes up in fear when she meets Ridley. Who she has murdered about six times already.
Pirates are retconned to be insectiod non-sapient drones rather than awesome mad scientist types.
There is a whole subplot about a traitor with no satisfactory resolution. The traitor is called "The deleter" and is exactly who you'd predict it would be although the game never bothers with actually out and out saying so.
General hilarious levels of sexism.
Gameplay problems:
Controls are unnecessarily clumsy.
Spamming dodge lets you resolve any fight.
Most powerups are pointless with the "concentration" move available, which fully restores missiles somehow.
Painfully linear.
Invisible walls.
You know the bits in Metroid Prime where you had to find something with the scan visor to progress?
Remove all the fun and neat lore bits from that and make it a million times worse and more arbitrary, and you have Other M's scanning.
Slow walking through corridors with a RE4 style camera where nothing happens for a good five, ten minutes.
Hard mode is just removing all powerups from the game.
i managed to pick up a rare copy of the Metroid Prime Trilogy in the wild a few months back. wiimote control for all three Primes. very fun. if Nintendo was to release an updated Metroid FPS-style game in that vein i would buy the shit out of it.
