What was the extra stuff for having a Suiko II save in III?
You can get a couple of extra scripts to act out in your castle's theater. Not nearly as cool as the bonus side-quest you got in Suiko II, but still an amusing extra.
Haven't read through the entire thread yet, but just to add my 2 cents. Suikoden II besides being one of my favorite (if not favorite) all time RPG's also was home to my favorite RPG Villains of all times.
So I decided to pick up IV today to give it a try, and jesus christ I know everyone says the battle rate is high but this is crazy. I've gotten into like 15 battles going from the first island to the next, and its not even far. That coupled with the 4 person limit, and the boring character designs right now has me wanting a break after only an hour.

IV isn't as bad as people say it is. The sailing is ridiculously stupid but other than that, the game is pretty enjoyable.
... Then again I only got about a 3-4 hour taste of it.
Hm, okay guys, is it bad if I sell Jowy's ring to get the amulet? I could sure use the cash in the early game, but I don't wanna screw up my chances of doing a full 108...
It wont cost you any stars, but it's one cold hearted and miserly thing to do :P
Edit: Also, I support your goal of getting all 108. The 108 ending in Suikoden 2 is a thing of beauty.
Cold-hearted? Lady, this is WAR. I'm sure Jowy would approve the funds going to beating the crap out of the people who tried to hang him. Besides, HE'S offering to sell it. I'm sure he has no love for the crest of the family who fucking disowned him.
I heard somewhere that one of the stars in one of the games involves rushing to a bunch of locations before the in-game clock reaches so and so hours... which game is that? So I know whether I have to rush through this or not...
There's a sidequest in this one (II) where you can get a bunch of extra scenes for the fleshing out of a character if you make it to certain places within the time limit, but you don't get an SoD for it, just backstory and character development.

That's not exactly correct.
Clive has a special quest in 2 that you can do by rushing through the game to get to certain locations in x hours, but even if you don't make it you can still recruit him.
You do, however, have to run into him in Muse to be able to recruit him later. I forget if you run into him the first time you're in Muse or the second, though.

Oh, okay, good to know.
It'd still be nice to manage to see those, but I'm not gonna cry over it.
Don't worry about it your first time through, seriously.
It involves basically beating the game in less than twenty hours. And, while it is possible to do that and still get all 108, it's very nerve wracking and not really worth it.
Hey, is there a part of the hideout I haven't found? 'cause I can't seem to find any of the stars hanging out anywhere, except Gengen who's chilling outside next to the well.

You will see your stars hanging around in your hideout soon enough.
Some of them are just on patrols and stuff, I guess.
Oh and please post once you had your first Major Battle!

Gratz!
Now keep us updated on the Suikoden 2 playthrough!
Also, the game is so much prettier it's not even funny.
Wait till you get to some of the FMV cutscenes.
What's next, is my main guy named Riou Baggins?
MMmm.... goodies.
I game series that give you goodies for having save files from previous games.
Pretty sure you can unlock something in III if you have a file from II (I don't unfortunately lost that PS1 card)... does IV and V do this at all?
I am a freaking nerd.

Viktor in particular became a total monster later in my game, doing thousands of damage per turn with normal attacks.
Awesome.
This thread has inspired a replay of my own, and I'm about at the same spot.

Haha.
Yes it's going to be an "awesome" castle.
Haha.

Recruiting some of them can be very frustating.

Me three, except I'm not as far because I usually farm Marco's game for money before moving the story along.

So what are we saying... that Suikoden is like Deus Ex?
*watches 500 people reinstall Deus Ex*
Its not nice to abuse that power

....bastard.

Luca, you are one right bastard. And I love you.
This scene RIGHT HERE shoots him right up with my favorite villains of all time. Alongside Kefka and the Joker. Oh, this is so great.
(I'm talking about the "act like a pig" scene here).
Wonder how much reaquiring Suikoden I and II would cost me....
I am a freaking nerd.
He is glorious indeed!
Just wait for the other stuff he has prepared.
Haha, I had just barely enough to play once, and what happened? First throw out of bounds. I was so frustrated I moved on as soon as I could. :P

(to clarify, he went down saying "I have failed...")
Edit: Nevermind, guess he's alright, he's still around in the next battle.
