His merry laughter rang through all the halls as Bloody Mary (Jpants) dropped the lifeless body of Grayson Martin Rutherford Aluicious (Phyphor) (Also once known as The Dragon, but everyone who would have called him that was now gone to a place he himself now journeyed). She had thought, when she began the flaying, that this was the man she searched for. It clearly was not, for his laughter would have stopped.
Zhong Kui looked over his victim with a feeling that he could not easily express. Was it pity? Sadness? Love? Surely, surely not. He had not felt those things for years. Decades. Centuries. And certainly there had been prettier eyes than these in that time. More shapely, a clearer blue. But at the moment, he could not picture them, could not remember a time before he had seen more beautiful eyes set in a perfect face. He took The Man With Deep Blue Eyes’ face in his hands. They stared out with perfect confidence.
The world took a breath, and did not let it go. There was a sound very like a sigh, or perhaps simply the thought of a sigh, and The Man With Deep Blue Eyes felt the world go cold and silent. He looked up at the King of Ghosts.
“You. Will come with me. For...processing. You will wait for further instruction.” Zhong Kui held the man’s gaze for a moment longer before tending to the rest of his obligation, and only momentarily allowed himself to think of the future.
The world finally let go.
Wailing in a mixture of perpetual ghostly sorrow, and wraithful wrath, Bloody Mary tore after the laughing man, or imp, whichever term she felt most degraded him. Howling through the halls with a cry that set all the hairs on the back of YOUR neck upwards, even though you were only reading the narration, she seemed dead-set on acquiring the head of her intended target.
The doors to the library opened as she passed them by, and the Lord-Countess grabbed her head.
“No,” he said simply, and then drew her head against the wall.
Sitting before the remaining guests, the Lady-Count smiled slightly. “Are you sure this is what you all want?” she asked.
