troubleshooting hardware or networking problems isn't a difficult as computer illiterate people seem to think it is. It definitely doesn't elicit the pay it receives.

sorry bud i just don't feel that warrants much bitching considering how it probably isn't done very often
Wow thats a hostile respone, and kind of funny since I was going to write that all jobs have there down sides, and I should be lucky that mine is a minor pet peeve. Whatever, it actually does happen quite often, and when people bring in checks they rarely have there license ready, they have to dig through their belongings to find it, and when I'm the only cashier people behind them get pissed that they have to wait for so long. And because I work in a bookstore the line takes twice as long because people like to talk about the books they are buying. Which I actually enjoy so don't jump on me about that please.
I'm a merchandiser (stock boy) for a beer and wine distributor. I go from store to store and put things on shelves. I'm working on getting out of this.

Do you ever stock your car, instead of the shelves on accident
I receive orders from our Sales and Warehouse Departments on units/parts to be built and produce the work orders needed for our Production Shop staff to make, as well as managing our stock inventory of units and keeping the log of serialized units.

Unlike Best buy, we can get commission, so as an SA I can make double my hourly ($10/hour) in a day if I get lucky ( I make 12% of any warranty sale). They move you up though the ranks pretty fast, so I will probably be on full commission soon where you can make upwards of $750 a day selling computers and laptops.
Thats on a really good day though, the average is around $250.
Some of the best salesman in the company make upwards of $100000 a year. Thats pretty intense for a job any half knowledgeable geek can attain.

Oh man I did that for about 3 years.
being 19 and making $25k was awesome back in the day.
but $750 commission dollars in one day is, or at least was, exceedingly rare.
Like every other boxing day rare.
Do yourself a favour and use FS as a stepping stone to something better.
You're looking at, if you're really really good, $100 a day average.
I've been told that it's a pretty large company in the U.S.
Conflicting manuals report between 2500-3500 stores across the U.S.
There's only 9 or so in Canada. They hope to have about 300 in a few years. My manager became a manager after 3 months. She's leaving the store to go to Calgary and the person taking over has been there 3 months. So there is a lot of room to move up.
Managers make like 46k (canadian) a year and get 5% of all the net earnings of the store.
I make 15.21 an hour right now which is pretty good and spend about a 1/4th of my day on the road.
It's just the telemarketing and bill collecting that is a bit... unsavory, but hey, what can you do.

One of our PEs in my department made over 750 last Saturday so its not that rare here. On Saturdays most of the PEs pull in around 300, 400 dollars easy. Weekdays are slower, as is the spring and early summer, but from the beginning of August to end of December money flows like water. Apparently its not uncommon for PEs to make 10 grand during the month of December.
I forgot to mention I live in a very rich province, which helps tons. People are coming in ready and willing to drop big bucks on stuff that makes us loads of commission.
I plan on using it as a stepping stone, I just hope I can control my spending habits once the cash starts flowing in.

seems like an easy to make, honest mistake
(I actually get my alcohol at cost unless it's damaged, like one beer in a six pack fell out, then I get mad discounts)
And we do all of the imports and micro-brews in the area. Anyone heard of Oberon, yeah, I put that on the shelf so hard.

I get paid very little for my time and nothing for my overtime because it's "for the business"
There are days where I am insane with stress and there have been some affects to my health because of it.
But at least I'm never bored.
I did that kind of work for a few summers. It was atrocious.

I'm uberjealous.
That came on the radio at the store right after we closed the other day and everybody sang along.
I will look and see if I can find it
If you know where it is, could you point me to it?
I think I found it:
