Yeah, pretty sure the layoffs are concerning the writers at GameSpot more than the video people. Danny will be fine. The drinks he's posting photos of is purely supportive of his former colleagues.
I hope Caro and Tom and anyone else who got canned bounce back, though
After watching some Pop Fiction videos I really want a horror game where the scary parts come from the game being weird. I know Eternal Darkness did this a bit but I want the game to really go off the rails and have the fear come from being outside levels, watching code break, finding half-finishing things and such.
Sometimes I get this chill down my spine when watching people glitch games and go outside its boundaries, it doesn't feel right. Maybe the game would have you be a Detective trying to solve a mystery and its clues required you to explore outside the normal game space.
It seems Gamespot is shifting dramatically to video content and away from written editorial. Danny O'Dwyer's work on The Point and The Lobby, among the other shows that Gamespot shows, are probably doing a dramatically higher view count than the written things. Plus they can put ads directly into the video content that ad blockers can't block.
It's tragic break when people are having to lose their jobs, but Jeff, and even Patrick, have talked elaborately about how the changing landscape of video game journalism and the industry as a whole is shifting to video or audio from written editorial.
I also wonder how much the Giant Bomb Premium membership funds are helping them compared to Gamespot's ad revenue driven model that is apparently not doing great.

We're not allowed to drink where I work anymore.
Once upon a time, the union offices housed a number of cots for people too drunk to go home.
Once upon a time, it was not unusual for people to get off work, go up to the cafeteria, drink heavily, find a cot, be woken by their manager the next day and stumble back to work.
Once upon a time, we bought more beer on a weekly basis than Tivoli, the fourth most visited amusement park in Europe.
It's kind of interesting how Yukiko and Kanji's shadow selves are introduced with sequences in which either one of them is basically looking to get laid (though this is, of course, more true for Kanji than it is for Yukiko)
The game doesn't shy away much from talking about teenage sexuality, though maybe in a fairly oblique way
But Yukiko's relationship desires were tied into the idea that being in a relationship would empower her to be able to act as the agent of her own destiny, so that she could be "rescued" from the tedium of her life
We'll see if Kanji's whole thing turns out to be more than meets the eye or if it basically turns out "GUYS I JUST, I AM SO CONFUSED ABOUT THESE FEELINGS IN MY LIBIDO AREA"

I should PROBABLY be sober???
Then I got tortured and all my friends are dead
Gamefaqs probably doesn't have that many employees anyway
Sounds like a Wednesday to me.
Why isn't this a real movie
That Dan and Jason are the last new hires for Giant Bomb until someone leaves
If I were a money man and I looked at the amount of content they're churning out, they don't need more people
Because they need to make Action Doctor first.
Steam
Yeah, it's probably gonna be 12-18 months before they can even think about more hires.
